The 104-game tournament has already shown some shocking results. One of the favourites, the Spain national football team, were held to a goalless draw by Cabo Verde. They will now be looking to buckle up for the rest of the tournament. France and England are the other two favourites to clinch the World Cup crown. They have started things off with victories in their opening games.
In the coming days, the mega competition is only going to get more intense. Scoring goals is a dream of every player on the grandest stage of them all. But getting suspended is not what any contestant looks for. In the FIFA World Cup 2026, there have already been four red cards till now.
The Mexico vs South Africa opening game of the tournament saw three red cards. Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole was the first one to get the red card after denying a goal-scoring opportunity against El Tri. A red card will see a player miss the next game. FIFA can come up with a longer suspension if they feel like the action was more dangerous.
