Angola announce squad for AFCON 2025

Angola will play their first AFCON 2025 game on 22nd December.
Angola head coach Patrice Beaumelle has announced his final 28-man squad for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, revealing the group that will aim to give the Palancas Negras’ best-ever performance at the continental finals.
Beaumelle’s squad announcement culminates weeks of speculation around his final picks, with numerous prominent absentees grabbing notice as Angola prepares for a daunting Group B campaign against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Egypt.
Experienced players like Bastos, Gilberto, and Andrade did not make the final list, despite expectations. Their omissions reflect Beaumelle’s confidence in a new, more dynamic group heading into Morocco.
The French coach’s goal to advance past the quarterfinals for the first time in the nation’s history is strengthened by his choice of a well-balanced squad that combines seasoned internationals with up-and-coming talent.
They will depend largely on the explosiveness of Gelson Dala, Zito Luvumbo, Mbala Nzola, Mabululu and Randy Nteka as they seek to break down some of the tournament’s finest defences.
On December 22, they will play South Africa in their first AFCON match. They will then play Zimbabwe on December 26 and Egypt on December 29.
The Palancas Negras go to Morocco with controlled confidence and the desire to start the next phase in their football history, thanks to performance from their 2023 quarterfinal run and Beaumelle’s revitalised team.
Angola have never won the event, with their finest achievements being quarter-final appearances in 2008, 2010 and the previous edition in Cote d’Ivoire.
