All Czechia needed was to win. It was the only way to ensure their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 32. However, while facing Mexico at Mexico City Stadium, which is 2,200 meters above sea level, the Representatives appeared to be out of gas throughout the game.
The Czechs’ fate was sealed when the scoreboard remained unbreakable. There is no sugarcoating it: Czechia have been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.

Czechia bid farewell to World Cup after group stage elimination

With their backs against the wall and everything on the line, Czechia emerged from the tunnel and onto the pitch at Estadio Azteca looking lifeless. Aside from a few opportunities here and there, Mexico were never placed under pressure. They won 3-0, which felt far more lopsided than the game on the pitch indicated.
The Representatives leave the 2026 World Cup disappointed and defeated in every manner. In their first FIFA World Cup appearance since 2006, they presented a complete catastrophe.
Twenty years after losing in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Czech Republic are once again eliminated from the group stage. The Representatives will have a tournament to forget, scoring only one point in three games.
Fans in Bohemia did not wait 20 years for the national team to score just two goals and win zero games in football’s most important competition. Disappointment does not accurately describe how they feel.
