The Tartan Army finished third in Group C.
Scotland suffered a bruising 3-0 loss to Brazil in their final Group C game in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on June 24. The result left the Tartan Army out of the top two spots in their group, with Brazil and Morocco occupying those positions.
Steve Clarke’s men started the match well, but a horrible error at the back from Scott McKenna allowed Vinicius Jr to put the Selecao ahead in the seventh minute. Jack Hendry also had a lapse in concentration, with Vinicius finding the back of the net again, but VAR ruled out the goal due to a foul.
The Real Madrid player completed his brace in first-half added time, heading into the top corner after a good cross from the right flank by Bruno Guimaraes. The Newcastle midfielder turned provider again, this time for Matheus Cunha, who scored his team’s third goal at the hour mark.
This was a big loss for the Scots, who had to win the game to have any chance of making it into the top two and securing automatic qualification for the Round of 32. Instead, with Morocco beating Haiti 4-2, the Tartan Army remained in third place with three points.
