Colombia and Argentina are set to face each other in the final of the Copa America 2024.

The Copa America 2024 consisted of 16 teams in four groups. Each group had four teams contesting against each other. Argentina were in group A and they topped their group, they also beat Ecuador and Canada to reach the final.

Colombia, on the other hand, had a much more difficult path since they were in group D alongside Brazil, Costa Rica and Paraguay. They went on to beat Panama and Uruguay to reach the final. Both the teams have endured their difficulties and the best players have come through to ensure their victories.

Let’s take a look at the best combined XI for Argentina and Colombia:

Argentina and Colombia Combined XI (Formation: 4-3-3):

Goalkeeper: Emiliano Martinez (Argentina)

The Aston Villa keeper made a name for himself after a tremendous run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ever since then, Emiliano Martinez has performed consistently for Argentina. Martinez is first in the Copa América rankings for most clean-sheets (4).

He did not have much to do against Canada in the semi-finals, but made some routine saves and helped build the play from back.

Right-Back: Gonzalo Montiel (Argentina)

A player who takes his time to get used to the tempo and rhythm of the game, but is effective when settled in. Gonzalo Montiel has great vision as well and helps provide precise and incisive passes on various occasions.

Montiel is a agile and aggressive defender and Argentina can rely on him in both attacking and defensive parts of the game.

Centre-Back: Cristian Romero (Argentina)

Cristian Romero has always been a solid defender for Argentina, but his best performance came in a crucial semi-final match against Canada. Romero won all of his duels (5/5) and had a 92% pass accuracy.

It was a well-rounded performance from the defender, keeping opponents in-check and helping contribute to the attacking play as well.

Centre-Back: Lisandro Martinez (Argentina)

Lisandro Martinez is surely an underrated defender in European football as well as for his country. Often criticized for his stature, Martinez does not shy away from winning headers or tackling as well.

Furthermore, the Manchester United defender is quite technical and contributes to the attacking play on many occasions.

Left-Back: Nicolas Tagliafico (Argentina)

Nicolas Tagliafico has often been caught against opposition players, but he never fails to recover. Throughout the tournament, despite making some errors, Tagliafico has been solid in defending the left flank and is great in one-on-one duels.

Central Midfielder: Enzo Fernandes (Argentina)

The Chelsea midfielder has faced a lot of criticism in London. However, just like Enzo Fernandes turned up for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup 2022, he has turned up now as well.

Fernandes also had his best game against Canada in the semi-finals. The midfielder bossed the park and had a 92% pass accuracy. He even recorded an assist as well.

Central Midfielder: Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina)

Alexis Mac Allister has proven himself to be a versatile midfielder, especially at Liverpool. Mac Allister mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, but contributes a lot to defending the backline as well.

He disrupts opponents’ play on numerous occasions. Furthermore, his passing range combined with his accuracy and creativity have helped Argentina throughout the tournament.

Right Winger: Lionel Messi (Argentina)

Who else but Lionel Messi? Messi is arguably Argentina’s greatest player. He has always been a creative player, be it for FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain or national side Argentina.

He has had some difficulty finding the back of the net and even missed a penalty. However, Messi eventually scored a goal against Canada in the semi-finals. Even without scoring or assisting, the Inter Miami player has contributed to many plays and created chances due to his creative prowess and dribbling.

Central Attacking Midfielder: James Rodriguez (Colombia)

James Rodriguez was arguably the best player at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. His performances in that tournament led to a tremendous breakthrough in his career. Unfortunately, Rodriguez could not live up to the expectations and never fulfilled his potential due to injuries. But, he always shows up for Colombia and is rolling back the years at the Copa América 2024.

Rodriguez has now broken Lionel Messi’s record of most assists in a single Copa América campaign. Messi’s record stood at five assists. The former Real Madrid player has broken it after assisting a goal against Uruguay in the semi-finals (6). The player has also managed to score a goal at the Copa América 2024.

Left Winger: Luis Diaz (Colombia)

A proper example of South American flair combined with aggression and passion. Luis Diaz is a technical winger who does not hesitate to take on his opponents. Diaz is one of the best players in the world, known for his flashy and effective dribbling.

He has displayed this at the Copa América 2024 for Colombia as well by scoring two goals and providing two assists. Even when he does not score or assist, Luis Diaz is a constant threat to the opposition team.

Striker: Jhon Córdoba (Colombia)

It was unexpected that a 31-year-old striker would perform this well at the Copa América 2024. Jhon Córdoba has been a great player for Colombia throughout the tournament.

His statistics speak for him, as he has scored two goals and provided two assists so far. His second goal against Uruguay in the semi-final was key for Colombia’s qualification to the final.
