Arsenal injury news ahead of Inter Milan clash in UCL; Martin Odegaard returns to training
The midfielder missed several Gunners matches with an ankle injury.
Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, was seen returning to training on Tuesday morning, which gave the team a significant boost.
The Gunners have suffered without Odegaard since he sustained an injury while playing for Norway during the September international break.
After losing 1-0 against Newcastle on Saturday, Mikel Arteta’s team dropped to seven points behind leaders Liverpool. The Gunners are now winless in their last three Premier League matches. Arteta will hope that the former Real Madrid player’s return will change the outcome of the club’s performance.
When they play Inter Milan at San Siro on Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League night, Odegaard could return to the squad. At his news conference later today, Arteta is expected to provide an update on his captain’s availability. Odegaard joined the first team camp on Tuesday.
Although Declan Rice was not present when Tuesday’s session began, it is believed that his health is not a serious worry.
Additionally, absentees were Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Riccardo Calafiori, all of whom are anticipated to return during the November international break.
For Arsenal, who were also shaken by the departure of sporting director Edu, Odegaard’s return is certainly positive news.
After five years at the Emirates, the Brazilian announced his resignation on Monday. He will now likely lead Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ multi-club business.
Arsenal have been far from their fluid best on the field this season and are going through an unsettled time off it. However, Odegaard is considered one of the side’s most innovative influencers and may contribute to a change in fortunes.
In his last two Premier League seasons, the 25-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 17 assists. This calibre surely will come in handy as Arsenal are vying for the Premier League title with Manchester City and Liverpool this season.
Now that he is back, Arsenal are at a turning point in the current campaign. Later, on Sunday, before the November international break, Arteta’s club will go to Chelsea for a vital league game.
