Austria and Jordan are drawn in Group J alongside defending champions Argentina and Algeria.

Austria are set to commence their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Jordan on Tuesday, June 16, at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Carla, California. The two sides are drawn in Group J alongside defending champions Argentina and Algeria.

Das Team secured a direct spot in the World Cup by winning the UEFA qualifying group H. In eight games, they secured six wins, one draw and one loss. However, their qualification for the summer competition was secured on the final day after they drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Under Ralf Rangnick, Das Team have returned to the FIFA World Cup after 28 years, and they are reluctant to let the opportunity go to waste. They play promising football, and the team has found a rhythm, as seen in their European qualifiers.

Ralf Rangnick’s side have a lot of great options in the midfield. Nicolas Seiwald has been a strong anchor, while Marcel Sabitzer can also play and score. However, the side will miss Christoph Baumgartner at the summer competition, who could have been a huge threat to the opposition sides.

Nevertheless, they are expected to continue playing with a high-pressing plan through crosses, especially for Marko Arnautović, who also scored eight times for Ralf Rangnick’s side in qualifying.

There are no significant injuries in Austria’s camp. However, they are already missing Christoph Baumgartner, who suffered a thigh muscle injury and will miss the entire tournament.

In his absence, Marcel Sabitzer is expected to play as the side’s creative engine and attacking midfielder, capable of penetrating the final third. Although Dejan Ljubicic joined the side as Baumgartner’s replacement, it remains to be seen if he gets fielded in Rangnick’s starting XI.

Meanwhile, David Alaba has returned to full strength, and Philipp Lienhart has also recovered from minor muscle tightness. Konrad Laimer is also fully cleared to start at right-back. Thus, the Austrian team looks good ahead of their first tournament game.
