Austria starting lineup vs Algeria confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 match

Austria and Algeria have faced each other only once before.

Currently second in group J, Austria are keen on recording their second win in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They will lock horns with Algeria in their last group-stage game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, June 27.

Ralf Rangnick’s men started their campaign with a 3-1 win over Jordan. Romano Schmid scored the side’s first goal of the summer competition, and later Marko Arnautović also netted a penalty from the spot.

However, in the second game, they suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to defending champions Argentina. After playing promising football against Jordan, Austria’s performance was heavily criticised following their defeat to Lionel Scaloni’s side.

However, they have one last big chance as they face Algeria. A win will guide them into the knockouts, while a draw will keep their hopes alive.

Thoughts on the lineup

Ralf Rangnick has an almost fully fit squad. Alexander Schlager will start in the goal for Das Team. David Alaba will continue as Austria’s centre-back alongside Philipp Lienhart. Stefan Posch and Phillipp Mwene will play on the flanks in the back line.

Nicolas Seiwald and Xaver Schlager form the double pivot in the midfield, while Marcel Sabitzer will take up the creative and goal-scoring duties as the left winger. Meanwhile, Romano Schmid will continue to provide creative support from the right flank. Marko Arnautovic will also be the frontman, supported by Konrad Laimer.
