Barcelona president says clubs offered €200 million for Lamine Yamal

President of Barcelona Joan Laporta has declared that the club has been the recipient of an enormous €200 million (£172 million/$218 million) proposal for Lamine Yamal.

The big €200 million bid that Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain was allegedly making for Lamine Yamal, who has been a revelation at Camp Nou this season, was first reported by Marca later in March. Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has now stated that the team recently turned down a €200 million deal for the teenage attacker.

The Blaugrana boss continued, saying that other teams have made offers for six more Barcelona players in addition to the 16-year-old winger, but the Catalan giants are not willing to part with any of their young players.

Speaking to SPORT, Laporta said, “We get offers for players like Lamine Yamal, for €200 million, and we have said no. Because we trust the boy, in his sporting projection, and we do not have the need, on the contrary.

“We have had offers for Alejandro Balde, Fermin, very important Gavi, Pedri, De Jong, Araujo… But we do not want to sell them. The only way with these that I have told you, would be at a figure of 1,000 million in income.”

“Only players who we need will come to reinforce some positions that do not clash with La Masia’s policy, because we want to promote players who are already mature at Barca Atletic,” he added.

“The other day, for example, [Marc] Casado made his debut, who had been called up for many times without making his debut in La Liga and played against Atletico. Thus, we have many players who are dynamic, from the first team like Hector Fort, who always plays very well.

“This is the Barca model, a unique model of understanding football and playing it, we will not change it. Only proven players will arrive, but it is not always easy to get it right. We have carefully studied most of the positions regarding players from [the youth team] who will be promoted to reinforce the first team.”

Yamal is the most recent youngster to graduate from Barcelona’s La Masia youth system, and Laporta stated that transfer agreements shouldn’t obstruct these young players’ ascent to the starting lineup.
