Belgium jersey numbers for FIFA World Cup 2026 revealed; Kevin De Bruyne to wear no. 7

The Red Devils are preparing for the biggest competition.
Belgium’s “golden generation” promised a major victory for 10 years with no follow-up. But now that a new team has moved past the weight of expectations from the past, they could end up making a surprise at the World Cup.
Belgium’s squad for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States includes members of the team who made it to the FIFA World Cup semifinals in Russia in 2018 and finished at the top of the FIFA rankings four times between 2018 and 2021.
Goalie Thibaut Courtois, record scorer Romelu Lukaku, talisman Kevin De Bruyne, and seasoned midfielder Axel Witsel will all be competing in their fourth consecutive World Cup this month. However, Belgian aspirations are more dependent on a group of up-and-coming players.
Courtois and De Bruyne are still essential components and first choices for the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Witsel has returned as a seasoned backup. Lukaku, who has struggled with injury all season, was only added to the 26-man squad based on reputation and a chance to regain fitness.
Rather, Belgium looks to players like Youri Tielemans, who has replaced De Bruyne as captain, and Amadou Onana of Aston Villa, as well as the dribbling prowess of Jeremy Doku of Manchester City. Doku has been winning more and more games for his nation.
They have grown to be crucial components of the team’s foundation. Ironically, this team may be more successful than Belgium’s “golden generation,” who were usually highly anticipated at important competitions but failed.
