The Copa America 2024 will be the debut campaign for the Reds.

Canada national football team are all set to make its first-ever appearance in America’s premier international football tournament, the Copa America 2024. Currently ranked 49 by FIFA, the team will play under new coach Jesse Marsch.

Captained by the young and prolific left-back Alphonso Davies, the team will face defending champions Argentina, Peru and Chile in Group A of the 48th edition of Copa America. Having a good mix of young prospects and veterans of the game, Canada can prove to be a team that can shock the Giants.

Alistair Johnston made his international debut on March 26, 2021. Since then, he has featured in 42 games, scoring once and providing three assists. He has been consistent for his nation, except for in Gold Cup 2023, when he was out with an ankle injury.

4. Ismael Kone

The Watford youngster has caught the eyes of football pundits with his midfield-controlling abilities. He appeared in 42 EFL Championship matches this season. He also hails a habit of scoring goals as he struck four goals this season in the league and provided three assists.

For Canada, the 1.88m prospect has already played in 19 games, scoring twice since his debut in 2022. Kone is expected to play an integral part in Canada’s debut Copa America.

3. Stephen Eustaquio

The 27-year-old midfielder plays for Portuguese giants FC Porto. He has even represented Portugal seven times at U21 level. He featured in 28 Liga Portugal 2023-24 games, scoring and assisting twice each.

Stephen Eustaquio has been a jewel for the Canadian football team. To date, he has represented Canada 37 times, scoring four goals. He also hails the ability to play as a CDM. He is expected to play a pivotal role in Jesse Marsch’s system.

2. Jonathan David

LOSC Lille’s young & lethal centre-forward Jonathan David has caught the attention of Ligue 1 clubs with his fast speed and premier finishing skills. He rocked the French League with 19 goals and four assists in 34 games this completed season.

His ability to launch shots is an asset for the Canadian team. One can expect him to shock bigger teams in Copa America with unexpected goals from long ranges. He hails an illustrious and super impressive international career where he has scored 26 times while providing 16 assists in just 48 games.

1. Alphonso Davies

Davies is surely the most popular and high-profile player of this team. The 1.85m left-back made headlines for his electric pace when he clinched the Champions League with Bayern Munich. He was one of the best performers in Bayern’s historic 8-2 triumph against FC Barcelona.

At present, Davies has been one of the best performers in the Bundesliga. For Canada, he has scored 15 goals in 47 games despite being a defender. His ability to move up and serve as an LM and LW is the biggest plus for Copa America debutants Canada.
