These stars scored a bucket full of goals in 2024

In football, not all players of every position have the same authority to change the fate of a game. Players in the forward line have the power to turn a lost game in their side’s favour. They pose the capability to break the deadlock and give their side the lead to win and enjoy.

In the early years when footballers preferred a 4-4-2 formation, scoring valuable goals was only a centre-forward’s job. Now, the game has evolved but guess what, strikers still hail the most stakes in scoring for their side and claiming glory.

In 2024, we saw many strikers being celebrated for helping their teams chase glory. But not all could penetrate the tough back-lines and make a name for themselves. So, without jabbering much about the jewelled forwards, let’s have a look below and see who were the best strikers in world football in 2024:

10. Omar Marmoush

The 25-year-old Egyptian has been the centrifugal force for Eintracht Frankfurt to do so well this season. So far in the 2024-25 season, he has 20 goal contributions in 12 games (13 goals and seven assists). In the Europa League too, he has been sailing fast with five goal contributions in five games.

He hails a total of 29 goal contributions this season and has been equally effective since the start of January 2024. His club finished sixth in the Bundesliga last season, and are currently just below Bayern Munich. They are also topping the charts in the Europa League, and the biggest factor for doing so well is their No. 7.

9. Ollie Watkins

The 28-year-old English centre-forward has been Unai Emery’s trump card in the English top tier. While Emi Martinez protects the side with his reflex and mentality by guarding the fence at the back, Watkins takes the trouble to shock the EPL biggies to get their way out with his shots up front.

Since the start of January, Watkins has scored repeatedly, often braces to lead his team with full points in the EPL. His goal against Arsenal in April, and assist against Liverpool in May were beyond appreciation last season.

For England too, he performed well in the minimal minutes he got in the UEFA Nations League. He has still managed three goal contributions in three games.

8. Jonathan David

The Canadian striker has to be the best reason for LOSC Lille performing exceptionally well in 2023-24 and the ongoing season. If it was not for his goals in almost every game since January 2024, Lille wouldn’t have got a top-four finish.

He has been equally effective this season too, playing an integral part in the club’s qualification to the Champions League league phase. Now, he has struck goals against giants like Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid, and Juventus FC to help his club be a contender for a slot in the next round (round of 16).

With his superb finishing prowess, he has even disturbed nations like Peru and Uruguay in the Copa America 2024. In this season too, LOSC Lille are again standing fourth, and David is again the protagonist of their results.

7. Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo might have left Europe, but even at the age of 39, the legend continues to rank in the Hall of Fame. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been the best performer in the Saudi Pro League for his present club Al Nassr FC, and for his nation Portugal, the captain continues to lead by example.

CR7 has been exceptional on the international stage, especially in the UEFA Nations League Group 1 this time. Even at 39, he has five goals and one assist in just five appearances in the Nations League.

He’s trying hard to get silverware for Al Nassr too. In the Saudi league this season, he has 11 goal contributions in 11 games and five in the Asian Champions League (ACL Elite). Ronaldo’s tally for Al Nassr since the year started has also been noteworthy. He has three hat tricks in the league this year.

6. Viktor Gyökeres

Sporting CP’s Gyokeres has caught the eye of big clubs, especially Manchester United. Why wouldn’t he? A player of his stature is finally getting recognition on the big stage. His hattrick against Manchester City has been the talk of the town.

The No. 9 with his apt finishing, good speed, and excellent skills continues to lure his popularity on the world stage. Despite being in the Portuguese league, he continues to rank high in the chart.

Viktor has too many goals in Liga Portugal this year, including single goals, braces, and even hattricks. He has scored goals in almost every game of the last and present season for the club. If he manages to keep the good form, a big transfer fee surely awaits in the upcoming transfer window.

5. Kylian Mbappé

Mbappe might be having a rough time with his dream club Real Madrid, where he arrived this summer. But, that doesn’t stop the prolific striker from shying away from this list. For the Spanish giants, he might have just eight goals in LaLiga and one in the Champions League, but for PSG, where he left as a legend, he was wonderful in the first half of the year (2024).

He even had a brace against FC Barcelona and three goals against Real Sociedad in the Champions League. His tally since the start of the year in Ligue 1 had also been great, where he contributed with goals in almost every other game, leading by example. He would have been topping the charts if he stayed with PSG.

4. Robert Lewandowski

The Polish centre-forward seemed average in the second half of last season, missing more perfect chances than scoring. But, still, he managed to score in every other game. This season, however, he seemed to touch his prime yet again. Under new manager Hansi Flick, he fared lethally. He is currently the top scorer in LaLiga, and an exceptional top grade performer in the UEFA Champions League too.

He has seemed to adapt well to the Barcelona style of play, even at 36. Besides doing his usual job of scoring, he is also more active in the game, creating good chances for the young wingers like Lamine Yamal.

3. Lautaro Martínez

The Inter Milan striker is the biggest reason for his club becoming the Serie A 2023-24 champions, and also one of the biggest reasons for Argentina to be crowned champions of Copa America 2024.

Besides scoring in all group-stage games of Copa America, he even scored the winner in the final. He has also found the back of the net in the last three FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. His Serie A antics this season have also been terrific. The 27-year-old was at his best in January and February 2024, scoring goals in almost every game. Martinez would have ranked even higher if his club fared slightly better in the Champions League.

2. Erling Haaland

Said to be one of the best from the current generation, Erling Haaland has made scoring in the English Premier League look easy. He has 12 goals in 13 EPL games, and five in five UCL games in the present season already.

Last season, he appeared more classy, scoring goals in almost every other game since the start of 2024. He had even scored four goals in a game of the EPL vs Wolverhampton Wanderers. He could have been the top star, with the skills and the power he has, which arguably is of the highest grade in the world now. But, his UCL performance in the knock-outs were not praiseworthy enough to earn him the top spot.

1. Harry Kane

The legendary English striker left Tottenham Hotspur last season, in a thirst for trophies. The thirst is still on, and he is working hard to get a taste. He has been deadly this year, scoring goals in almost every game. This season, he has three hat tricks in the Bundesliga, 14 goals, and seven assists.

In the UEFA Champions League too he is displaying his peak, having scored four goals in a single game. His performance even last year, since January has been no different. Bayern Munich seem to have gotten every penny’s worth from the hefty price they paid for Kane, with the number of goals he is continuously delivering.

The English striker led England to another brilliant season as always. In Euro 2024, he led the team to the finals, once again. He even scored the equalizer in the semis against the Netherlands. Every football fan would hope that Harry Kane finally gets a trophy this time, for the first time.
