Three Premier League stars are on the list.

Football was once a simple game. The ball used to be booted out to the skilled wingers who did their thing and crossed a ball or two for a big target man to head home. There was a time when the best left-wingers were all left-footed but now it’s different.

There are now wingers who consider themselves goalscorers, pressers, inside forwards and much more. Modern-day football has evolved a lot and wingers’ jobs are different.

Being a left winger in this day and age isn’t as black and white as it once was. Some of the most talented players in the world play on the left, using trickery, pace and creativity to light up sides across the world. Here we take a look at the top 10 best left-wingers of 2024:

10. Son Heung-min

A lethal finisher in its simplest form, the seasoned South Korean international has already bagged a couple of goals and a couple of assists to start the 2024/25 campaign. He’s been a world-class performer at Spurs for almost half a decade. While he doesn’t excel in some of the traditional aspects of wing play, Son has blossomed into arguably one of the best goal scores in the world. There isn’t a goal he can’t score with either foot and Ange Postecoglu has got the best out of him in recent times.

9. Karim Adeyemi

Adeyemi is a versatile player who can play on both wings and also as a striker upfront. He is happy to drop a little deeper and play between the lines, link play and create space for attacking midfielders to link up with one another. He uses his breakneck pace to get past defenders and drive the ball into the box with the stronger foot.

The German is very comfortable using both feet while dribbling and uses his agility to quickly change directions so he can evade multiple defenders at once. He was a key part of the Borussia Dortmund team which reached the UCL final.

8. Raphinha

During his time at Leeds United, Raphinha displayed his superior technique and ice-cold nature on the ball. Since his move to Camp Nou, things have been more up and down for the Brazilians as he contributed to Barcelona winning LaLiga during his debut campaign in Spain before the next season saw that title surrendered to fierce rival Real Madrid. This season though he is in fine form and under Hansi Flick he has improved a lot.

7. Mikel Oyarzabal

The Spanish winger is not blessed with fantastic pace like many other wingers. But his dribbling, creativity and footballing IQ separate him from many players in his position. He has helped Real Sociedad reestablish themselves as a continental club regularly.

From the beginning of his career, he has been playing for Sociedad and it is believed that he has rejected many offers from big clubs to stay at Sociedad. He is a big example of royalty in world football. He played a key role in Spain’s win in the Euro 2024.

6. Luis Diaz

A player who has benefitted from Jurgen Klopp leaving and Arne Slot coming into the fold at Anfield is Luis Diaz. The Colombian was not bad under the German tactician but his form this season has at times been brilliant under the Dutch tactician. The dynamic winger has proved to be a consistent goal threat for Liverpool since making the move from Porto in January 2021. He also played a key role in Colombia’s road to the final in the Copa America 2024.

5. Khvicha Kvaratskhlia

The Georgian has garnered the Kvaradona tag since joining Napoli and for good reasons. His direct running, instinctive nature and penchant for entertaining have seen him immediately emerge as a fan favourite. He is an incredibly exciting winger to watch, with his unpredictability and variation in possession being distinct factors in his meteoric rise. As long as he stays in Italy, he will be an essential presence for Napoli in their bid for European and domestic success.

4. Rafael Leao

The Milan winner started last season with an outrageous bicycle kick against Roma and ended the campaign as Serie A‘s leading assist provider, while also becoming the second-fastest Milan player to reach 50 goals and 50 assists after Kaka. The Portuguese international boasts a lightning-quick stride that overwhelms defences every week. He is a destructive ball carrier and has reached superstar status at San Siro.

3. Phil Foden

His ball control and dribbling abilities are nothing short of mesmerising, allowing him to weave past defenders with ease. Foden’s passing range and vision enable him to unlock defences and create scoring chances for his teammates. Foden has exceptional finishing capabilities, making him a potent goal-scoring threat from midfield.

His confidence and flair make him a constant threat to opposing defences. He played a key role in Manchester City‘s Premier League title win and also helped the England team to reach the final of Euro 2024.

2. Nico Williams

Nico is a delightful winger to watch. He was the best player for Spain in the Euro 2024 alongside Lamine Yamal. Whenever he was on the pitch he always made a difference to help out his team in the tournament. He is also a key player for Athletic Bilbao and consistently performs well for them in LaLiga. Despite many rumours of him joining Barcelona, he decided to stay at the Basque club.

1. Vinicius Junior

Many Real Madrid supporters were dubious when their club parted ways with ÂŁ38 Million for a 16-year-old Vinicius Jr. But in truth, the scintillating Brazilian has paid every single penny back plus interest. One of the standout stars for Los Blancos.

He was not able to win the Ballond’Or despite having a brilliant season with the Madrid outfit. The Brazilian has received terrible abuse in Spain but keeps rising above the hate and is arguably the best out-and-out winger in the world.
