These strikers have lit up the UCL competition with their goalscoring prowess.
Borussia Dortmund are one of the best clubs to develop young raw players who are aiming to become a top star in future. The German club have bought many such players and nurtured them into the best players for years. They have also had centre-forwards who made a massive impact before they left to join other top European clubs.
Those strikers are still talked about at the club and how they achieved many notable things with the German team. With this, we take a look at the top three strikers who have the most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign for Borussia Dortmund.
3. Robert Lewandowski (2012/13) – 10 goals
The 2012-13 season marked the breakthrough of Robert Lewandowski as one of the most promising strikers when he took Dortmund to the final of the competition. The Polish striker enjoyed a prolific season and his most famous performance came against Real Madrid in the semi-final when he netted four goals against them.
It was a season where he captivated everyone with his performance and demonstrated his qualities on one of the biggest stages of the competition. His performance is still talked about especially his four goals against the Los Blancos.
2. Erling Haaland (2020/21) – 10 goals
Erling Haaland’s time at Borussia Dortmund was filled with goals as the striker developed himself into one of the most prolific goalscorers. Although he couldn’t win anything meaningful there, he did enjoy many big moments. He led the German club to the quarter-final of the Champions League in the 2020-21 season and went on to score 10 goals in the competition.
Although they were defeated by PSG in the knockout stages, Haaland individually had an excellent season as he scored plenty of goals.
1. Serhou Guirassy (2024/25) – 10 goals*
Serhou Guirassy led Borussia Dortmund to a 3-0 Champions League victory over Sporting CP yesterday. It helped in matching Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski’s record at Dortmund.
Guirassy placed last year’s runners-up in control of their play-off encounter on Tuesday by scoring one goal and setting up another. Before giving Pascal Gross a flawless assist to extend the lead in the 68th minute, the striker headed in his tenth goal of the campaign on the hour mark.
*The tally is likely to increase with at least a game more to play for the 2024-25 season
