Die Schwarzgelben have made some statement signings this summer.

Borussia Dortmund are one of the powerhouses in the German Division. They have been one of the most successful teams in the country alongside Bayern Munich over the years. Die Schwarzgelben have failed to win the Bundesliga since 2012 despite coming close several times.

However, this year the team looks strong on paper with some outstanding additions set to play a vital role in the 2024-25 season. There is also a change of personnel in the dugout with Nuri Sahin taking the charge this season. He has promised to make Borussia Dortmund a well-drilled side. He will mainly focus on playing attacking football with a more dynamic approach this term.

Let’s take a look at the predicted lineup of Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga 2024-25 season:

Borussia Dortmund predicted lineup (Formation: 4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper: Gregor Kobel

The Swiss International has been a reliable player for Borussia Dortmund ever since joining the club back from Stuttgart in the summer of 2021. Kobel has already smashed 118 appearances for the club and hopes to play an important role in the upcoming season.

Gregor Kobel is a quality goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball in his feet and can build an attack by playing out from the back easily. He also possesses good reflexes having developed into an excellent shot-stopping goalkeeper. Last season he made an astonishing 85 saves boasting a 71.4% save percentage.

Right-back: Julian Ryerson

Julian Ryerson was one of the standout players for Borussia Dortmund last season. He was pivotal to their run to the UEFA Champions League final. He is probably one of the best one-on-one defenders who is very tough to get past. Last season, he made a staggering 121 ball recoveries for the team while winning 23 tackles, 10 interceptions and four crucial blocks.

Centre-back: Waldemar Anton

Waldemar Anton comes with a huge reputation after signing for the club from Stuttgart to replace Borussia Dortmund legend Mats Hummels, who has left the club. Anton brings similar characteristics to the team like Hummels with both of them excelling in building up the play from the back. Anton is an excellent reader of the game, after making 40 interceptions last term for his old team, which would be a massive boost.

Centre-back: Nico Schlotterbeck

Unlike Anton, Nico Schlotterbeck is a physical defender who doesn’t shy away from making challenges. He always indulges himself in duels. He racked up 245 ball recoveries last term while also winning 71.4% of his tackles which highlights the impact he makes for the team. While defensively Schlotterbeck is sound, he is also a threat from set-pieces having scored two goals last term.

Left-back: Ramy Bensebaini

Ramy Bensebaini endured a difficult last season due to a knee injury which he picked up during international duty in March. It had ruled him out for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign. It was a huge blow for him after starting to showcase his potential.

Bensebaini was signed with a lot of expectations after his blistering form with Borussia Monchengladbach in the 2022-23 season where he scored seven goals and assisted once. With him now fit and firing, hopefully, this will be the season where he hits new heights with the team.

Central Midfielder: Marcel Sabitzer

The Austrian international was a standout player for the team in the second half of the season after displaying some eye-catching performances from midfield. Marcel Sabitzer registered six goals and nine assists in his debut season after making the move from Manchester United. He is a hardworking player who puts a real shift by pressing higher up the pitch while also covering a lot of ground.

Central Midfielder: Pascal Gross

Pascal Gross remains one of the high-profile names to arrive this summer. He comes into the team after emerging as one of the most underrated midfielders in world football. He usually doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves for his consistent performances.

Gross is an excellent passer of the ball who will help the team dictate the play while also creating chances after delivering an astonishing 13 assists for Brighton last term.

Borussia Dortmund predicted lineup for Bundesliga 2024-25 season

Right-wing: Donyell Malen

Donyell Malen will be raring to start the season similar to last campaign. Last season he enjoyed great success after scoring 15 goals from 38 appearances. However, he will have to improve to remain consistent after suffering a dip in form at the end of the 2023-24 season. Malen can be an instrumental player for his new manager with his versatility to play several positions up front.

Central Attacking Midfielder: Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt has been handed the vice-captaincy role by Nuri Sahin. Brandt is expected to play an important role after the departure of Marco Reus. He is a classy player who is excellent at carrying the ball and linking up the play with his fellow teammates.

Last season, he appeared 47 times in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further 14. With Nuri Sahin focusing more on attacking football this season, Brandt can become the architect of his new-look team.

Left-wing: Karim Adeyemi

Borussia Dortmund will be delighted to retain the services of Karim Adeyemi who was consistently linked with some clubs for a departure. However, now that he is going to stay, the pacey forward will be raring to begin the season from where he left off. Adeyemi is known for his extreme burst of pace and dribbling skills.

It has made him one of the coveted wingers in Europe. Last season, he scored five goals. This time he will be hoping to score more goals by remaining consistent.

Striker: Maximilian Beier

The rising superstar in the Bundesliga caught the eye of everyone last season. The player enjoyed a breakthrough season where he scored 16 goals in 35 appearances. This is an impressive record for a player who is just 21 years old with his best years yet to come.

However, Maximilian Beier will have to fight for his place with another addition Serhou Guirassy and Sebastien Haller providing competition for a place.
