It’s Der Klassiker time
It’s that time in Germany again, Der Klassiker. Borussia Dortmund will welcome Bayern Munich in a Bundesliga showdown that promises fireworks. Keep your eyes on Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, because there’s nothing better than the old-school thriller of these heavyweights.
But we use ‘heavyweights’ lightly as Dortmund have not been really doing what they do best, leaving them trailing in 5th in the Bundesliga standings with only 19 points. However, if their perfect home record so far is anything to go by, then Bayern might not want to take them lightly.
Under Vincent Kompany, however, the Bavarians have regained their aura, leading the table with 29 points. A clinical 3-0 victory over Augsburg in the previous game extended their unbeaten run to 11 games. With six points clear at the top, Bayern will look to cement their dominance. But it’s the German Classico—momentum and past stats don’t matter.
Kick-off
Saturday, November 30, 5:30 PM UK (11 PM IST)
Location: Signal Iduna Park
Form
Dortmund (in the Bundesliga): W-L-W-L-W
Bayern (in the Bundesliga): W-W-W-W-W
Players to watch
Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund)
Guirassy has solidified his role as Dortmund’s go-to striker, with 10 goals and 3 assists in 16 matches across all competitions this season. His lethal finishing and knack for creating chances have been key for the team’s attack (at least, whenever they have looked threatening). The Guinean forward’s consistency stands out, as does his ability to perform in clutch moments.
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
To keep an eye on any other player, but Kane during Bayern’s games could be a big mistake. Since leaving Tottenham, he has proved what the North Londoners are missing. Finished last season with 36 goals, and has started with even bigger standards, netting 14 already! He’s filled Lewandowski’s void in Munich very seamlessly.

Dortmund will be without Emre Can, who is suspended, and Karim Adeyemi sidelined with a hamstring injury for a few days.
Bayern, on the other hand, have a laundry list of injuries. Aleksandar Pavlovic (broken collarbone), Hiroki Ito (injured), Joao Palhinha (groin), and Josip Stanisic (knee). While Pavlovic might return soon, the others are expected to miss more time.
