Brazil tops Group C at the FIFA World Cup with seven points.
Brazil’s 3-0 win over Scotland has confirmed that the Seleção will top Group C at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti and his tactics for the five-time champions were being criticised by the football world, but it seems the Seleção have finally secured the statement they were looking for before playing their first knockout game.
Brazil’s all-time top scorer, Neymar, also played a few minutes for Selecao for the first time since 2023. There are many talking points about the games; on that note, let’s take five key takeaways from the FIFA World Cup 2026 clash.
5. Steve Clarke lacks a reliable set-piece taker
Against Brazil, Scotland had a decent number of set pieces, and most were taken by different players. Veteran defender Andy Robertson lacked accuracy. while other attempts also failed to get close to the goalpost. Alisson Becker wasn’t tested much by the Tartan Army’s attack in the first half, while Angus Gunn had a tough time in the goal.
Scotland, especially Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, came close to scoring in the second half, but the Liverpool goalkeeper stood like a wall.
4. Steve Clarke has to force Scotland out of a defensive shadow
Scotland has a heavily defensive approach to playing. Steve Clarke prefers a pragmatic, defensively resilient style, but without a plan B. The Tartan Army allowed Brazil to advance and dominate, while the defence was miserably failing against Seleção’s flair.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men were crushing as the Scottish side looked answerless throughout. Scott McTominay and John McGinn tried playing higher up in the second half, but it also left spaces in the defence.

3. Carlo Ancelotti has found his front three

With Matheus Cunha, Vinícius Júnior and Rayan, it seems like Carlo Ancelotti has found his ideal attacking trio for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Raphinha is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during Brazil’s last game. However, his absence did not hurt the five-time champions, as the three players were complementing each other perfectly.
2. Scotland’s defensive lapse
Scotland’s defence gave a disappointing performance in a crucial game. In the 7th minute, Scott McKenna gifted Vinicios Junior a goal-scoring opportunity, which the Brazilian attacker did not miss.
Later, the Real Madrid attacker scored another goal, courtesy of another fine error made by the Tartan Army’s second centre-back, Jack Hendry. However, the 31-year-old was lucky, as the goal was eventually ruled out by the VAR.
Apart from the two, Andy Robertson was replaced by Kieran Tierney in the second half. Thus, the first half of the game was a defensive nightmare for Steve Clarke’s side.
1. Vinícius Júnior is a candidate for the Golden Boot

The debate of the Golden Boot has primarily been focused on Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. However, it’s time Vinícius Júnior should also get a mention in the race. The Real Madrid forward has scored four goals for the Seleção in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in three games and is currently the side’s top scorer.
The 25-year-old also became the fifth Brazilian player in history to score in all three group-stage matches of a single men’s World Cup. The other four are Jairzinho (1970), Romário (1994). Ronaldo (2002) and Rivaldo.
