The Portuguese heaped praises on the Belgian after a 0-0 draw in the Manchester derby.
Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has praised Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City and asserted that he is among the reasons the Red Devils have had difficulty winning trophies.
After ten years with the Premier League powerhouses, De Bruyne is all set to depart Manchester City at the end of the current campaign. Six Premier League wins and one Champions League trophy are among the 16 trophies the Belgian has won with the Cityzens.
Kevin De Bruyne is frequently praised as one of the Premier League’s top midfield players. Given De Bruyne’s decline in performance over the past two seasons, the Belgian has been likened to Manchester United captain Fernandes.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese also had a similar impact at United, but he is yet to win any major title with the club despite joining them in 2020. He has only won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with them. Fernandes has asserted, nevertheless, that De Bruyne is the reason the Premier League is superior.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes said: “De Bruyne made the Premier League better. If City is where it is, and Man United hasn’t won many trophies in this period, it’s because of Kevin De Bruyne, and he deserves all the credit.
“He’s done fantastic. Ten years in the Premier League is a lot. They have decided to part ways. I don’t know from which side, but Kevin keeps being world-class, and it was a pleasure to watch him so close. It was a pleasure to play against him.
“He’s going to stay in the history of the Premier League, not only of Man City.”
The Belgian has not yet revealed his plans for the future once he leaves Manchester City. De Bruyne has been connected to several Saudi Arabian teams, as well as St. Louis City of Major League Soccer. But it remains to be seen where the midfielder will next ply his trades.
