The midfielder is said to be settled in Manchester with his family.
There is no assurance that Bruno Fernandes will stay at Manchester United after he reportedly turned down a “crazy” offer from Al-Hilal, a Saudi Pro League team.
The Middle East offered the Portuguese international, the club captain of United, a hefty contract. According to reports, he rejected their advances in order to stay in Europe.
Fernandes had a miserable 2024–25 season end as United lost to Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final and finished 15th in the Premier League. His future was being questioned before the summer transfer window opened.
The Portuguese playmaker had earlier revealed that he would leave the club if they wanted to sell him to make some profit in the summer.
In an attempt to lure fellow countryman of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is considering his own future in Saudi Arabia, Al-Hilal made a move for the 30-year-old midfielder. But it seems Fernandes is not yet prepared to follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said:
“Bruno Fernandes has REJECTED Al Hilal proposal. Despite crazy contract proposal from the Saudi Pro League club, Bruno Fernandes wants to continue playing football in Europe. Man United captain wants to play at top level in Europe. Decision made.”
Fernandes can still say goodbye to Manchester United even though he has rejected a move to the Saudi Pro League team. In what is expected to be a hectic summer for the Red Devils, United’s absence from European football in 2025–2026 makes them likely open to transfer bids. Their midfielder has additionally been linked to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, this season (2024-25), the Portugal international ended up joining David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only players to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year accolade four times.
Fernandes has a contract that expires in the summer of 2027, with an extension option. The captain of United, his wife, daughter, and little son, for now, feel Manchester is their home.
