Harry Kane finally won a major trophy after Bayern Munich became the German champion.

From the vineyards of the Rhineland to the snow-kissed domes of Saxony, legends were born, sagas were written, and destinies were rewritten. In one of the most entertaining and thrilling seasons in Bundesliga, the unthinkable and unpredictable happened.

The English talisman, Harry Kane, who had wandered through seasons of heartbreak, finally lifted his major trophy under the Bavarian skies. The quiet black forest town of Freiburg, which was once nearly swallowed by relegation’s shadow, half a decade ago, made it to the UEFA Europa League. There have been many such incidents that made this season worth remembering for decades, if not ages.

We now present our Bundesliga team of the season, a constellation of magicians who have turned mere football pitches into battlegrounds and moments into memories.

Bundesliga Team of the Season 2024/25 (Formation: 4-4-2)

GK – Robin Zentner (Mainz 05)

The German custodian stood tall between the sticks and played a crucial role in propelling Mainz to nearly securing a continental spot after finishing 13th last season. Despite being placed in the sixth spot, Mainz have conceded the joint-second-lowest goals this season, after Bayern Munich.

He has saved a total of 104 shots so far this season while making 31 appearances for Mainz. He delivered some extraordinary performances for the Rhineland-Palatinate outfit that made him a fan favourite at the MEWA Arena. He has mostly single-handedly helped Mainz to turn defeats into draws while safeguarding slender leads with his crucial saves.

RB – Rasmus Kristensen (Eintracht Frankfurt)

We often don’t see a player on loan making the Team of the Season, but such was the 27-year-old Danish’s performance that saw him etch his name in this elite list. This was Kristensen’s maiden season in the German top flight after he was loaned to Frankfurt by Leeds United.

He was a defensive stalwart for Frankfurt, helping them inch closer to the UCL. He won 245 tackles and 47 aerial duels. His knack for scoring goals was vivid as he contributed to six goals and found the back of the net four times this Bundesliga season.

CB – Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)

The 29-year-old German centre back from Hamburger has been a cornerstone of defensive stability and discipline for Leverkusen for almost a decade. His no-nonsense defending, coupled with his ability to close down channels, has garnered interest from several clubs like Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Despite Leverkusen failing to retain their Bundesliga title, he stood as a figure of impregnability for Leverkusen. He has won 225 tackles and also neutralised aerial threats by winning 82 aerial duels. He also netted three goals for Bayer Leverkusen this season.

CB – Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich)

Dayot Upamecano made a move to Bayern Munich after plying his trade in the Austrian top flight for Salzburg and donning the Leipzig jersey. He commanded the Bavarian backline with tactical authority and ensured Bayern conceded the fewest goals in Bundesliga.

Apart from winning 226 tackles and 73 aerial duels, he also pressed forward to help his team during counterattacks. He also excelled in second-ball recoveries, providing crucial coverage in both open play and set pieces.

LB – Nathaniel Brown (Eintracht Frankfurt)

The 21-year-old youngster was one of the best young players in the German top flight this season. After serving a short loan period at FC Nurnberg, he made his mark for Frankfurt this season. He was a menace on the left flank of the pitch for Frankfurt, making those overlapping runs and penetrating defences.

He covered a total distance of 230 kilometres and 25 appearances for Frankfurt. He also scored three goals and provided six assists offensively for the club, making him an asset for the present as well as the future.

RM – Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)

This was Michael Olise’s maiden season in Bundesliga, and he didn’t leave any stone unturned to turn the limelight towards him. At the age of 23, he played exceptionally to help the Bavarians reclaim their German championship and pride.

The jersey no. 17 player contributed to 25 goals this season. Apart from scoring 11 goals, he was crucial in creating many opportunities for Harry Kane from the right flank, highlighting his selflessness and creativity that immensely benefited Bayern during clutch moments.

CM – Nadiem Amiri (Mainz 05)

Nadiem Amiri, the 28-year-old German midfielder from Ludwigshafen, exercised his footballing prowess with teams like Hoffenheim and Leverkusen before joining Mainz in 2024. This was a breakthrough Bundesliga season for the German maestro as he dominated the game from the centre of the pitch.

Offensively, he contributed to 11 goals this season, scoring seven and providing four crucial assists as well. Apart from spearheading the team’s attack, he also offered defensive solidarity as he won 254 tackles and also emerged victorious in 24 aerial duels.

CM – Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen)

The experienced 32-year-old Swiss midfielder from Basel has been phenomenal for Xabi Alonso’s side. After making over a century of appearances for both Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach, he joined Leverkusen in 2023 and helped them to win the Bundesliga in his maiden season.

He constantly provided relentless energy and dynamism from the centre of the park for Leverkusen. He has featured in every single match for Leverkusen this season. The player also contributed to nine goals and found the back of the net twice.

LM – Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Amidst rumours of Manchester City inching closer to making Etihad the new home for Florian Wirtz, the German youngster, who recently celebrated his 22nd birthday, would be happy to have another remarkable season in Bundesliga.

He has contributed a total of 22 goals for Leverkusen this season, making 12 assists and finding the back of the net 10 times. He clocked an average top speed of 34 kilometres an hour and was a threat from the left flank of the pitch with his acceleration and pinpoint crosses.

ST – Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt)

The 22-year-old French striker from Marne has made his mark in the Bundesliga after emerging as one of the leading goalscorers this season. He played a crucial role in helping Frankfurt make it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and also securing a spot in the UCL.

He has scored a total of 15 goals this season for Frankfurt and also provided seven assists. He took 111 shots and was also lethal in finding the back of the net with his accurate shots on target. He will play a crucial role in helping Frankfurt fare well in the upcoming edition of the Champions League.

ST – Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

It is impossible to keep Harry Kane away from any team of the season in whichever competition he has ever featured for both his club and country. The most surprising mystery of Harry Kane failing to win a trophy has now been solved after Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga after a rare disappointment last season.

Kane is the leading goalscorer of this season with 25 goals and seven assists under his belt. The visuals of Kane lifting the Bundesliga shield will forever be a timeless reminder that success can be delayed but can never be denied to the greatest.
