A notable experienced figure has failed to make the cut.
Cameroon men’s national football team is gearing up for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers fixtures. The upcoming international break in June will see The Indomitable Lions play against Cape Verde and Angola on 3 June and 6 June 2024 respectively.
Marc Brys, the manager of Cameroon’s men’s national football team, has picked a 31-member pre-selection squad for the upcoming international break and is working towards staying ahead of the competition in Group D of the CAF region’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The tactician, who was appointed in April 2024, will be hoping to start his stint with the Indomitable Lions on a winning note against Cape Verde and Angola. However, the exclusion of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has indicated that the Belgian is not afraid to take bold calls. The exclusion of the experienced FC Bayern Munich striker, who recently played in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid, also sends a strong message to the rest of the squad members to keep their levels of performance high or face the axe.
Some popular figures like Andre Onana of Manchester United, Vincent Aboubakar of Besiktas, and Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford FC have made the list. However, there will be some trimming to reveal the final squad for the international break. Since Cameroon is one of the favourites to qualify for Group D, the pressure will be on the players to perform and produce positive results.
