African nations have earlier come under scrutiny for player’s age fraud

In light of their open age falsification and use of two other identities, 62 Cameroon players have been ruled ineligible for the MTN Elite One PlayOffs.

On Monday morning (11/03), it was made public through a variety of local media outlets that 62 Cameroonian league players had been ruled unfit for the MTN Elite One Play-offs because they had lied about their age and assumed two different identities. One of them is Wilfrid Nathan Duala, a Victoria United A-League player who is thought to be 17 years old.

The problem might leave a lasting impression, particularly in Nathan Duala’s team, when seven of his players were sent off. However, the Cameroonian federation has deemed 13 of their players temporarily ineligible, therefore Young Sport will not be able to rely on them in their lineup.

All of this controversy has the potential of damaging Cameroon’s football, which has been previously the subject of many scandals in recent months, under Samuel Eto’o’s presidency.

President Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon was eager to put an end to the issue in the central African nation, so the football federation of the country invited 44 players from eight different teams for a hearing in the summer on accusations of age or identity cheating. However, the bulk of youngsters chosen for this year’s UNIFACC tournament, which was played by the Under-17 teams of Central African Football Federations’ Union countries, were kicked out after failing MRI testing, which has been an impediment for Eto’o in his attempt to stop their age fraud crisis.

The exams measure bone growth and scan the wrists of players to estimate their age.

African football has long been plagued by age fraud, with accusations of overage players casting a shadow over several of its junior international victories.Although there have been many accusations, it doesn’t seem like the authorities have done much to look into them.
