Canada national football team contact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & Jesse Marsch over vacant manager job

Solskjaer hasn’t managed a club since his sacking from Manchester United
The Canadian national team has reached out to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jesse Marsch on managing the team at the 2026 World Cup. A number of contenders are being vetted by Canada Soccer as they get ready to co-host the next World Cup.
Both Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho turned down the opportunity to interview for the position after determining it was not the ideal time for them to return to management.
It’s unclear at this point who would seize the opportunity—Marsch or Solskjaer. After leaving Leeds last year, Jesse Marsch, a former assistant and US international, has not had a job.
Following his dismissal from Manchester United in 2021, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not had a job. Other choices are former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka and coach Paul Clement, who coached Real Madrid and Chelsea.
We’ve also spoken with Bobby Smyrniotis, the coach of Forge FC, who is considered by many to be among the greatest in Canada.

Carlo Ancelotti’s longtime helper Clement may be the target of an audacious plot to entice the Real Madrid manager after he departs Spain.
In an attempt to find a successor for John Herdman, who guided Canada to its first World Cup in 36 years before departing to coach Toronto FC of the Major League Soccer, Canada are being ambitious.
With a team that includes players like Jonathan David of Lille and Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, Canada hopes to advance past the group stage of the World Cup. Mauro Biello, Herdman’s former assistant, is the acting head coach.
Mourinho graciously declined the position as he pursued a coaching position at a top European team. He declined the offer to become a manager in Saudi Arabia as well.
