The Mariners desperately need a win over the Flower of Shanghai.
Match Week 4 of the AFC Champions League Elite takes us to the Central Park Stadium in Gosford where Central Coast Mariners are scheduled to lock horns against Shanghai Shenhua.
Central Coast Mariners are currently navigating a challenging period. They are positioned 8th in the A-League points table after recording three consecutive draws in their first three matches. Their campaign in the AFC Champions League Elite has been equally disappointing, as they have failed to secure any points from their three matches so far.
Their journey began with a 3-1 loss to Shandong Taishan, followed by defeats to Shanghai Port and Buriram United. The Mariners will now be eager to claim a statement win when they face the Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua, in their upcoming fixture.
Shanghai Shenhua FC finished in second place in the CSL points table, just one point behind leaders Shanghai Port. They began their AFC Champions League campaign in a strong fashion, securing two wins and suffering just one loss. Their campaign kicked off with an impressive 4-1 victory over Pohang Steelers before a heavy 3-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim.
In their most recent AFC Champions League match, they bounced back with a 2-0 victory over a 10-man Kawasaki side. Despite the absence of Ziyang, who is suspended for one match, Shanghai Shenhua will be eager to maintain their winning momentum in their upcoming fixture.
