Chelsea are looking to strengthen their squad for next season

Chelsea are reportedly interested in a new left-back who has never before been connected to the team, according to an exclusive report. With the summer quickly approaching, Chelsea are anticipated to be one of the busiest teams once more.

This is especially true given that they had an extremely quiet January, which may indicate that they saved any major business for the extended window at the end of the current campaign.

Reporter Simon Phillips just published a BUMPER transfer news item on his Substack site, which includes a wealth of unique details on several names, plans, and the various jobs they will be seeking to fill come summertime.

He has also disclosed the identity of another left defender who Chelsea is interested in signing for the summer: Hertha BSC’s 20-year-old Luca Netz. The Germany U21 international is now on Chelsea’s radar as a possible left full-back replacement.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will probably search for chances to transfer their young left-back permanently. He is now on loan at Borussia Dortmund through the conclusion of the 2023–2024 campaign.

The full-back is an appealing summer target, as he adds that the London club anticipates selling him after he returns from his loan spell and that his contract has a £35 million release clause. Since joining the Bundesliga team in the winter transfer window, Maatsen has made an impression.

He has been called a “great” player and has contributed three goals (two helpers and one goal) in his nine league games thus far.

Over the past year, the Blues have executed a few of the most prominent transfers in international sport, including two transactions totalling more than £105 million for midfielders Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

In addition to those, the Blues’ spending power has increased over the past few seasons with deals of £62 million for Mykhailo Mudryk, £75 million for defender Wesley Fofana, and £52 million for Christopher Nkunku.

This has occurred even amid an ownership change that has seen American billionaire Todd Boehly take the lead role in the Blues boardroom.

But because of manager Mauricio Pochettino’s inconsistent play on the pitch, many have once again demanded a star-selection process and an infusion of new players, similar to what the Argentinean had implemented when he took over the summertime departures of eighteen first-team players upon his arrival in June of last year.

Although there is still time to mend the early damage to their relationship with the fanbase, Boehly and company won’t be too happy about their multi-year contracts and emphasis on luring in young, raw prospects to develop the club’s future in compromise of current circumstances have done. Many will be expecting that during the summer, more seasoned players will join the team.
