Enzo Maresca aims to return back those old golden European days at Stamford Bridge.

At a time when the Blues faithful were eagerly awaiting to see Mauricio Pochettino’s contract getting extended, Chelsea decided to part ways with the Argentine mastermind. That too after he went on to script a heroic comeback in the second half of the competition.

The London-based outfit roped in Enzo Maresca as the new head coach for the upcoming season. Amidst hopes and high expectations of Maresca turning around the team’s fortunes, his arrival to the club did not make much of a difference in terms of results. Since Maresca took over, Chelsea played seven matches and registered a solitary win over Club America in their pre-season fixture. Manchester City got the better of the Blues twice while Real Madrid and Celtic also thrashed Chelsea during their friendly encounters.

Servette are currently placed fifth in the Swiss Super League table. They won three matches and lost twice in all of the five league matches they have played so far. They are just a point away from levelling the table toppers FC Zurich.

The Geneva-based franchise were recently involved in too many high-scoring fixtures. They thrashed Signal 7-1 in their most recent encounter in the Swiss Cup. Their Europa League ambitions got shattered after Braga handed them a 2-1 defeat after playing a stalement in the first leg. Now in the Conference League play-offs, Thomas Haberli will be keen to secure a slender lead before heading home for the second leg or at least ending the match on level terms.

Both teams are similar to a hungry lion, who is raring to go hunting. Chelsea will be looking forward to become a source of happiness for the Blues loyalists at Stamford bridge while Servette will be keen to silence the loud and cheerful London crowd.

Kick-Off :

Friday, 23 August 2024 at 12:30 AM IST

Location: Stamford Bridge, London, United Kingdom

Form :

Chelsea (in all competitions): L-D-L-L-W

Servette (in all competitions): W-L-L-D-L

Players to watch :

Marc Cucurella (Chelsea)

The 26-year-old leftback from Catalonia recently emerged as the standout performer for Spain in their unbeaten run to continental glory in the Euro 2024.  The 5 feet 8 inch Spanish full-back spent his early days at Espanyol before transitioning to FC Barcelona, where he spent nearly a decade.

He served a brief loan period in Eibar and Getafe, until his extraordinary brand of football grabbed the limelight and earned him a permanent contract at Getafe. Before plying his trade with Chelsea, he made 35 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion. He has also been an asset to the Spanish national team as his overlapping runs from the left flank of the pitch are nothing less than a nightmare for opposition players.

Enzo Crivelli (Servette)

The 29-year-old French centre forward from Rouen began his voyage with Bordeaux reserves. After rendering his services to Bordeaux for half a decade, he signed for Angers before serving a loan spell at Bastia. He made a total of 67 appearances for Istanbul Basaksehir and was then loaned to Antalyaspor and Saint Etienne.

This was all before joining the Geneva-based outfit in 2022. He has so far made a total of 47 appearances for Servette, netting 12 goals.
