Pochettino reveals Christopher Nkunku could miss the entire season

Despite the fact that Christopher Nkunku isn’t currently working with the team, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino expects the forward to continue to be available to contribute to the team before the current campaign ends.

Since losing to Liverpool in the League Cup final back in February, the summer addition has not played. He has missed the last five games across all competitions due to the injury.

Pochettino stated at the beginning of the month that Nkunku would have his hamstring issue evaluated in “a few weeks.” The Chelsea manager provided an update during his press conference prior to the game before of the team’s encounter against Manchester United, which took place just over a month ago.

“At the moment we don’t know when it’s possible to train with the team, at the moment he is not training with us,” he told football.london. “His recovery is longer than we expected.

“It was after the final where he played 30 or 40 minutes, there was a problem and we didn’t know we found out after the game.

“This type of circumstance, it affects overall the things because it’s not only him but too many players this season. But I hope that he can be involved again quickly, as soon as possible in the dynamic of the team and of course if he should be really really good before the end of the season then we can come with him and he can be part of the team, I hope that that happens.”

Injury has marred the 26-year-old’s inaugural campaign at Chelsea since he joined from RB Leipzig in the summer. In ten club games in every league, he has two goals.

Chelsea’s chances of winning the title could be greatly increased if Nkunku is able to return before the season ends. The Blues want to move up as high as they can in the next nine Premier League games, where they are presently ranked 12th.

Pochettino is optimistic about Chelsea’s form as they navigate a busy schedule despite growing injury concerns. Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, nevertheless, will put Chelsea to the test when they come to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
