Which clubs were relegated from Premier League 2023-24?
These teams only played a single season in the first-tier
Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United have been demoted from the Premier League. These three teams suffer relegation just after one season in the top division.
Rob Edwards’ team was all but eliminated a week ago, and in order to have any chance of pulling off a stunning comeback, they needed to swing a sizable goal differential on Sunday, the last day of the season.
But it was not to be, as they were relegated to the lower division after just one season returning to the top flight following a 4-2 home loss to Fulham and a win at Burnley by Nottingham Forest, who are currently ranked 17th.
Luton earned promotion through the Championship play-offs last season, marking their first time back to the top division since 1992.
In their remaining 16 Premier League games, Edwards’ team managed just one victory (a 2-1 triumph at home against Bournemouth on April 6) after winning 11 games in a run of six in January and February.
They were momentarily removed from the relegation zone as a result, but they eventually lost all 13 league games and fell back into the bottom three.

Following a crushing loss to Newcastle United last month, Burnley’s one-season comeback to the top flight came to an end last weekend. Meanwhile, Sheffield United‘s relegation was officially confirmed.
Sheffield United and Burnley are returning to the Championship.
With the exception of Ben Brereton Diaz’s January signing, Chris Wilder was unable to significantly improve the Blades’ performance, making them the least surprise team to fall.
The Clarets’ season was summed up in that defeat; despite their best efforts and even a lead, they were unable to prevent a stronger opponent from scoring.
Under Heckingbottom, Sheffield United’s record was 1W-2D-11L, with 39 goals allowed and only 11 goals scored. Wilder’s team has a record of 2W-5D-14L, giving up 58 goals against 23.
