Colombia is looking for their second Copa America title.

The Colombia national football team, coached by Nestor Lorenzo, is set to make its 24th Copa America appearance. La Tricolor, currently ranked 12th by FIFA, will face formidable opponents Brazil, Costa Rica, and Paraguay in Group D of the 2024 Copa America.

Colombia enters the tournament with confidence, having recently demolished the USA 5-1. The team aims to improve on its third-place finish in the 2021 Copa America, where they lost to eventual winners Argentina in the semifinals but secured a victory against Peru for the third spot.

Here’s a look at how the 2001 winners might line up for this year’s tournament:

Predicted Lineup (Formation: 4-2-3-1)

GK: Camilo Vargas

The 35-year-old veteran goalkeeper is expected to be Nestor Lorenzo’s first choice for Copa America 2024. Vargas has been a key player for his club, Atlas, securing five clean sheets in 17 matches this season. He has recently become a regular starter for Colombia.

LB: Deiver Machado

The 30-year-old Lens left-back has made 19 appearances in Ligue 1 this season. Machado’s ability to push forward and contribute offensively will be a significant asset for Colombia.

After overcoming an adductor injury, he is back fit and ready to contribute to the national team’s efforts.

CB: Jhon Lucumi

Lucumi has been a mainstay in Bologna’s defense in Serie A, with 29 league appearances this season. The 1.87m center-back has 19 caps for Colombia, including participation in Copa America and World Cup qualifiers. He has been part of Colombia’s squad in their last three international friendlies and two World Cup qualifiers, all of which were victories.

CB: Davinson Sanchez

Sanchez has enjoyed a strong season with Galatasaray, scoring two goals in 23 Super Lig appearances. Standing at 1.87m, he brings stability and consistency to the national side. Despite recent injuries, Sanchez remains a key player for Colombia’s defense.

RB: Daniel Munoz

Since joining Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window, Munoz has been a regular starter, contributing 7 goals and 6 assists in 45 matches. His offensive capabilities from the right-back position have also been valuable for the national team, making him a consistent presence in the lineup.

CDM: Jefferson Lerma

Lerma, another Crystal Palace player, is expected to anchor the midfield alongside Kevin Castano. He has been a regular starter in the Premier League this season and has featured in Colombia’s recent friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. His experience and defensive skills are vital for the team.

CDM: Kevin Castano

The young Krasnodar midfielder has shown promise with his defensive abilities and excellent passing. Castano has played in half of Krasnodar’s matches this season and earned nine caps for Colombia since his debut in early 2023. His partnership with Lerma could be crucial for Colombia’s midfield stability.

LW: Luis Diaz

The electric winger has been a standout performer for Liverpool, scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists in 37 Premier League games this season. Diaz is a crucial player for Colombia in the attacking third, having represented his country 48 times and scoring 11 goals.

CAM: James Rodriguez (Captain)

Rodriguez, one of the most high-profile players in the squad, brings vast experience and playmaking skills. With 99 caps, 27 goals, and 27 assists, his ability to create goal-scoring opportunities is key to Colombia’s success. As captain, Rodriguez’s leadership will be invaluable.

RW: Jhon Arias

Arias has been impressive for Fluminense, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists in 27 games this year. Since his debut in 2022, he has been a regular for Colombia, contributing to their unbeaten streak during his tenure.

ST: Jhon Duran

The Aston Villa center-forward is expected to lead the attack for La Tricolor. Although he has had a modest season in the Premier League with 5 goals, his potential and presence up front are promising for Colombia.

Colombia will look to build on their recent successes and aim for glory in the 2024 Copa America with this balanced and talented squad.
