Uzbekistan and Colombia will face off for the first time at the FIFA World Cup.
Colombia are all set to have a brawl against World Cup debutants Uzbekistan. While the White Wolves have become the first Central Asian country to reach the tournament, Los Cafeteros already have a name in world football.
In 2014, they reached the quarter-finals, where they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Brazil. Despite being eliminated in the quarterfinals, James Rodriguez still won the Golden Boot at the tournament, courtesy of the six goals he scored. However, under Nestor Lorenzo, Los Cafeteros are aiming to go deeper in the campaign this edition.
Regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they officially secured their spot in the summer competition by finishing third in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, behind Argentina and Ecuador. Los Cafeteros also recorded crucial victories over Brazil and Argentina in the qualifying round.
While playing well in the qualifying round, Colombia occasionally faced some jitters in the middle of their run. In the pre-World Cup friendlies, they defeated Costa Rica and Jordan, suggesting the side was ready for the big stage.

Colombia team news ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 clash against Uzbekistan
Argentine technician Nestor Lorenzo has a fully fit team with no player suffering from any major issue. Jhon Córdoba has made his return from a minor tendon problem, while their defence line will include Jhon Lucumí and Davinson Sánchez. Experienced showstopper Camilo Vargas will take charge of the goalkeeping department.
James Rodriguez will be one of the biggest players to watch out for in Los Cafeteros’ games. However, former Liverpool attacker Luis Díaz will play as the country’s main man. Following his performance with the club, Luis Suarez could also emerge as the country’s top star; however, it remains to be seen how Nestor Lorenzo fields his attacking lineup.
