The El Tricolor beat Panama to lift the trophy.

National teams from all around North and Central America as well as the Caribbean were vying for supremacy, the 2025 Concacaf Nations League turned into one of the tournament’s most thrilling editions. The competition became more significant as the teams advanced, both in terms of regional status and individual prizes.

Mexico defeated Panama 2-1 on Sunday night in Inglewood, California, prevailing in the Concacaf Nations League event for the first time. Raúl Jiménez netted his second goal on a penalty kick in the second-half final minute to hand his national team their first-ever Concacaf Nations League trophy.

After a handball from Jose Cordoba, Jimenez, who also scored twice in Mexico’s semifinal victory against Canada, stepped up to the penalty spot and scored his second goal of the match after his shot went into the top right corner.

After the USA Soccer team, who fell to Panama in this year’s semifinal, claimed the first three editions of the competition in 2021, 2023, and 2024, Mexico’s victory makes them the first winner of the fledgling competition other than the US.

Concacaf Nations League 2025 Prize Money: How much did Mexico get?

Many would have hoped for grand cash prizes when Mexico won their first trophy, but the Concacaf Nations League doesn’t provide the winners with any incentives, a subject that has been discussed a lot because other competitions like the Copa America and Euros award money to the winning team.

In addition to a trophy encrusted with 34 diamonds, the Concacaf Nations League winners receive medals for their players and coaching staff and nothing else.

Given that the winning team in the UEFA Nations League receives a reported 10.5 million euros and the runner-up receives nine million, the fact that there is no financial incentive provided to the teams competing in this Concacaf Nations League has drawn criticism and caused some controversy.
