Who would Kaka choose as a part of his team, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?

Two of the greatest footballers of their generation and potentially of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have ruled the footballing world for almost two decades now.

The two living legends of the beautiful game have consistently been in the spotlight at both the club and international levels. Through their consistent world-class performances, they have etched themselves in the history books of the sport forever.

In his incredibly successful playing career, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has accumulated a staggering 895 goals and 252 assists, along with a stellar 80 trophies (both team and individual).

On the other hand, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has also enjoyed an illustrious playing career. During this period, the Argentine sensation has amassed an astounding 838 goals and 374 assists, along with an unprecedented 97 trophies (both team and individual).

When Brazilian legend Kaka was asked in an interview regarding the two modern footballing greats, the former AC Milan star was full of appreciation for both iconic players.

In his description, Kaka hailed Messi as a genius of the game and termed Ronaldo as a true workhorse, who possesses a very strong mentality as a top-level player. However, in an incredibly tough decision, Kaka ultimately chose Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi as a part of his dream team, owing to his sheer determination to succeed and win the ultimate honours.

Brazilian legend Kaka stated, “Messi or Ronaldo?”

“I will separate them like this: one is a genius and the other has a very strong mentality.” 

“Now, if you ask me who I want for my team, I would choose Cristiano. The chance of his failure is very small. He is very determined and focused.”

Even in 2024, both Messi and Ronaldo have been performing at incredible levels for both club and country. Although Ronaldo failed to win Euro 2024 with Portugal, he recorded a stellar campaign at Al-Nassr, finishing as the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League.

On the other hand, Messi won his second consecutive Copa America title with Argentina in the summer after an impressive club season with Inter Miami in the MLS.

With both legends in the twilight of their respective careers now, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would undoubtedly go down as two of the greatest ever players to step foot in the beautiful game.
