Curacao's jersey numbers for FIFA World Cup 2026 revealed

Curacao is set to make their FIFA World Cup debut.

FIFA World Cup has managed to integrate nations around the world, bringing fans together to celebrate the sport. The 2026 edition is set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, and will feature a record 48 teams.

Amongst the participating nations is the Curaçao national football team. The side is set to play their first-ever World Cup. By qualifying, Curaçao, with a population of 150,000, became the smallest participating nation in World Cup history, overtaking Iceland, which featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Curaçao qualified directly after finishing at the top of their qualification group. With the side needing a point to secure their spot, Curaçao clinched a historic point with a tense 0-0 draw against Jamaica.

Managed by legendary Dutch coach Dick Advocaat, “The Blue Wave” will be competing in Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, considered to be one of the most unpredictable groups of the tournament. They will be competing alongside Germany, Ecuador, and the Ivory Coast.

Germany and the Ivory Coast qualified after finishing at the top of their respective qualification groups. Ecuador, on the other hand, earned their spot after finishing as runners-up in the CONEMBOL group stage.

A massive controversy was the shock resignation of manager Dick Advocaat. He resigned in February 2026 to be beside his ill daughter in the Netherlands. He was replaced by Fred Rutten. However, the manager resigned on 11 May after a 5-1 defeat against Australia and subsequently lost the dressing room.

Following immense pressure from senior players and team sponsors, as well as with his daughter’s health improving, Dick Advocaat rejoined the side on 12 May. He will thus become the oldest manager in World Cup history at 78 years.

The team’s biggest star is Sheffield United midfielder Tahith Chong. He is known for his raw pace and exceptional dribbling. He is also accompanied by captain Leandro Bacuna and veteran goalkeeper Eloy Room, as the nation aims to make its mark in the tournament.
