The judge has ordered the player to visit the court every week

Dani Alves was convicted guilty of sexual assault in February and given a sentence of four years and six months in prison. According to El Pais, the Brazilian has challenged the verdict and requested to be released on bond during a hearing, adamant that he will not leave the nation.

As per COPE, Alves will now be released from prison pending the completion of his final sentence, with bail set at €1 million (£853,000/$108 million).

According to Mundo Deportivo, Dani Alves has been ordered to pay a €1 million bond, have his passports revoked, appear in court every week, and not be allowed to walk within a kilometre of his accuser or communicate with her.

Dani Alves told a bail hearing: “I believe in justice. I’m not going to run away and I will be at the disposal of the court until the end.”

Ines Guardiola, Alves’s attorney, had also argued in favour of Alves’s release on bond, citing the former Barcelona player’s strong ties to the community and his residence in the city following his two stints there between 2008 and 2016.

The disgraced player, who was considered a “flight risk” and was denied bail before his February sentencing, is soon scheduled to be released from prison after serving 14 months.

Dani Alves’s release is also contingent upon his turning in his passports from Brazil and Spain, staying in Spain, and consenting to weekly court appearances.

In addition, he has to follow a restraining order that forbids him from approaching his victim, her house, her workplace, or any other location she is known to visit within 1,000 metres. The victim’s attorneys, the prosecution, and the defence have three days to file an appeal of Wednesday’s decision. After exiting the courtroom, Ester García, the victim’s attorney, told the Spanish media site RAC1 how disappointed she was with the decision.

Alves made an appearance via video link on Tuesday when Guardiola claimed there was no chance he would leave the country or destroy evidence. Alves insisted he was ready to turn in his passports.

“I am really dissatisfied with this decision,” she said. “We will file an appeal because we believe it is not in accordance with the law.

“Justice is being done for the rich. It is scandalous that they free someone because they can get €1 million in no time.”

In the meantime, the prosecution requested a nine-year sentence, claiming that the conviction in February of four and a half years was insufficient to punish the crime committed. After a three-day trial last month and a 13-month inquiry, during which Alves was detained in preventative pretrial custody, Alves was determined convicted of sexually abusing a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022.Alves’ acquaintance from the night of the crime, the victim’s friend and cousin, the police officers who treated the woman, and a specialist in forensic psychology who evaluated her all testified throughout the trial.
