DC United vs Mazatlan Predicted lineup, betting tips, odds, injury news, H2H, telecast | Leagues Cup 2024
The Black and Red come into this game in excellent form.
After a devastating 5-0 loss to Orlando City in the Major League Soccer on July 7, the Black-and-Red have turned things around. They will be hoping to win five straight games this weekend. Last Thursday, DC United easily defeated Santos Laguna, a team from Mexico, 3-0 in their last Leagues Cup group-stage match. They produced an outstanding performance.
Theodore Ku-DiPietro and Cristian Dajome scored goals in the second half to round off a strong team effort after Christian Benteke gave the home team an ideal beginning to the match two minutes before the half-hour mark.
Mazatlan stunned Nashville with a 2-0 victory when the two teams faced off at Geodis Park last Thursday in their Group I finale. Teenage attacker Ramiro Arciga scored two goals in quick succession just after halftime, giving the Gunners three crucial points.
Before that, Mazatlan had lost five of their previous six games in all competitions, including their League Cup opener against New England Revolution, where they had lost 1-0.

Players to watch
Christian Benteke (DC United)
The former Liverpool striker has taken the Leagues Cup by storm. His addition has made DC United an excellent attacking unit. In the last four games for DC he has produced four goals, illustrating his goalscoring prowess. The former Belgium striker will look to continue his goalscoring form when DC take on Mazatlan.
Ramiro Arciga (Mazatlan)
Ramiro Arciga demonstrated his poacher instinct in front of the goal against MLS side Nashville and steered them to a 2-0 win, scoring both goals. He will once again aim to replicate a similar performance when his side face DC United. He will hope to add more goals to his tally in the Leagues Cup.
Match facts
- DC United have conceded in each of their last 10 games.
- Mazatlan have only won once in their last six games.
- In each of the previous eight DC United games, there have been more than 2.5 goals scored.
Betting tips and odds
- Tip 1 – Benteke to score for DC United.
- Tip 2 – DC United to win the match.
- Tip 3 – Under 3.5 goals to be scored.
Players and injury news
Russell Canouse, a 29-year-old midfielder, is still sidelined for DC United as he continues his arduous recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in October. American attacker Kristian Fletcher, who is recovering from an ankle injury, joins him on the Black-and-Red’s injury table. Conner Antley, another national, has not played since suffering an injury against Atlanta United back in May.
Hugo Gonzalez, the team’s primary goalkeeper, was pulled off the field due to injury just before the half-hour mark during the previous game against Nashville. The 34-year-old is definitely doubtful for Mazatlan. Ricardo Gutierrez is expected to start in goal on Friday in his place.
Head-to-head
This happens to be their first meeting.
Predicted lineup
DC United starting lineup:
Bono (GK); Herrera, Mcvey, Peltola; Dajome, Stroud, Klich, Rodriguez, Santos; Ku-DiPietro, Benteke
Mazatlan starting lineup:
Gutierrez (GK); Escoboza, Sanchez, Almada, Colula; Del Prete, Sierra, Meraz; Barcenas, Rubio, Arciga
Prediction
With their strong performance over the past weekend, DC United will be trying to maintain their momentum. Although Mazatlan are expected to mount a strong fight following an impressive performance against Nashville, we are picking the Black-and-Red to win in front of their home fans.
