Bayer Leverkusen are the current winners.

The Bundesliga champions and DFB-Pokal champions square off in the German Super Cup, often known as the DFL-Supercup or German Super Cup. The Deutsche Fußball Liga, also known as the German Football League, is in charge of the DFL-Supercup.

It was replaced in 1997 by the DFB-Ligapokal League Cup. However, in 2008 not sanctioned by any footballing body, the competition returned as the T-Home Supercup. It featured Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal winners Bayern Munich and DFB-Pokal finalists Borussia Dortmund.

The game served as a one-year stand-in for the DFB-Ligapokal, which was postponed because of UEFA Euro 2008 schedule congestion.

On November 10, 2009, at the German Football League’s yearly annual meeting, the Supercup was brought back for the 2010–11 season.

The DFL-Supercup replaced the DFB-Supercup, which was controlled by the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (English: German Football Association), as the title of the Supercup from that point on. The DFL-Supercup is currently managed by the Deutsche Fußball Liga.

Since 2010, the champion of the double (league and cup) plays the Bundesliga runner-up, in contrast to the DFB-Supercup. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout is used to determine the game instead of extra time.

Although this is not an official rule, the DFL eventually decides on the location. The game is normally played at the home of the winners of the cup or the Bundesliga runners-up, in the event a team sweeps the double.
