Messi has endured an injury-ridden season so far.
Lionel Messi hobbled off the field against the Columbus Crew, raising concerns once more.
After defeating the Columbus Crew 1-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium, Inter Miami had much to rejoice about. The Herons are not only the team remaining undefeated in MLS, but they also won all three points for the first time in April.
The Herons will now have to focus on their matchup with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals. Javier Mascherano’s team has just four days to recuperate before the tie’s opening leg begins on Thursday, April 24.
Lionel Messi, 37, may not be fit enough to participate, particularly because he left Ohio feeling a little uneasy.
In the final twenty minutes of Inter Miami’s game against the Columbus Crew, Messi seemed to be having trouble. When the match was over, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner went straight down the tunnel, limping a little.
For the fifth straight game in April, the Argentine played all ninety minutes, increasing his total time on the field to 450 minutes this month. Lionel Messi’s condition is still a major concern for Inter Miami. He has already missed three games this season due to injury, in addition to Argentina’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in March 2025.
In an interview with the media after Saturday’s game, Mascherano played down any worries over Messi’s injury.
“As far as I know, nothing happened. He came off fine,” Mascherano said. “I didn’t see him walk off, but I saw him in the dressing room. As far as I know, there’s nothing. I’ll ask the medical staff, but they haven’t told me anything.”
To find out if Messi is really healthy or if the great forward is once again battling an ailment, fans will have to wait until Thursday’s game. Lionel Messi, 37, has scored five of the Herons’ 11 goals in the competition this season. So losing him before the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals would be devastating for Inter Miami.
