On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump attended the 2025 Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where Chelsea and PSG competed for the trophy.
As he entered the stadium, Trump, along with his wife, Melania Trump, was met with applause. However, when he was momentarily displayed on the stadium’s view screen, he also received some jeers. FIFA President Gianni Infantino watched the game with the Trumps in a premium box.
Chelsea beat PSG 3-0 in the final of the competition, but when Trump and Infantino approached the field to take part in the trophy celebration after the game, the jeers became more intense.
Donald Trump handed out the tournament awards & trophy

Trump presented Desire Doue of PSG with the Young Player of the Tournament honour, Robert Sanchez of Chelsea with the Golden Glove honour, and Cole Palmer of Chelsea with the Golden Ball Award after the match.
Then, together, Trump and Infantino handed Chelsea skipper Reece James the 2025 Club World Cup trophy. He was also a part of the team’s trophy lift.
Donald Trump named Pele as the greatest of all time
Trump referred to Pele as the greatest soccer player of all time when asked about it on the DAZN broadcast after the game.
“Many years ago, when I was young, they brought a player named Pele to play, and he played for a team called the Cosmos,” Trump said. “He was the inspiration we had, and this place was packed. It was an earlier version of this stadium, but right here in the Meadowlands, and it was Pele.”
“I don’t want to date myself, but that was a long time ago. I was a young guy, and I came to watch Pele and he was fantastic. And I would I’d say, probably I’ll go old fashioned. That’s like saying Babe Ruth, but I would say Pele was so great.”
USA will now next host the FIFA World Cup in the following year alongside Canada and Mexico, and Trump, who is the chairman of the White House task force on the 2026 World Cup, will be eager to welcome all the participating nations to the country.
