Eddie Howe wants Kieran Trippier to stay at Newcastle United amid exit rumours
Kieran Trippier has been a key player for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
According to several reports, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe wants his experienced fullback, Kieran Trippier, to stay at the club for an extended period.
With just a year left on his current contract, Trippier has been heavily linked with a move away from Tyneside this summer. There is concrete interest from top clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
After a successful spell in LaLiga with Spanish giants Atlético Madrid, Kieran Trippier joined Newcastle United on a permanent deal during the 2022 January transfer window. The total transfer deal was worth €14 million.
Following the move, Trippier has been an instrumental player for Eddie Howe’s side. He has helped the club to Premier League safety, a top-four league finish and UEFA Champions League football all in a short period of time. Owing to his incredible performances, Trippier has also captained Newcastle on multiple occasions, while cementing himself as one of the best right-backs in the country.
However, the 33-year-old versatile fullback endured a disappointing club campaign last season. In the 2023-24 season, Trippier made a total of 39 appearances across all competitions, registering one goal and 11 assists in the process.
Despite his impressive numbers, Kieran Trippier was criticised by the fan base for the constant unforced errors in his game that cost Newcastle United several crucial matches.
During Euro 2024, Trippier was primarily employed as a makeshift left-back throughout the tournament due to Luke Shaw’s injury problems. His solid performances enabled England to make a good run to the final of the competition.
The English international was also linked with a transfer move in the January transfer window, with German giants Bayern Munich keen on acquiring his services. However, with nothing definitive materialising both on the club’s side and the player’s end, Trippier decided to stay at the club.
With the 2024-25 season fast approaching, Eddie Howe will hope that Kieran Trippier is tied down to a new long-term deal by the club’s hierarchy, as his professionalism, experience and versatility will be crucial for achieving any potential success. With the England national team job lurking, Howe’s future at Newcastle also remains uncertain at this point.
Owing to the stringent Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League, the PIF owners of Newcastle United have been calculative on the transfer market so far this summer.
