La Roja won all of their Group B matches.

After yesterday’s start of the final round of group matches, UEFA Euro 2024 has reached a pivotal point. While most of the outcomes were predicted, there were a few surprises for the fans, such as Belgium’s defeat by Slovakia in Group E. The Red Devils rank third in the world.

Furthermore, after two games, Kylian Mbappe and company are ranked second in Group D. They could drop even lower if they suffer an upset against Poland after failing expectations in last game. France would have easily defeated the Netherlands but they settled for a draw. This means that the Round of 16 could feature some unexpected matchups.

Spain and Germany are currently considered the favourites for the title because of their domination in Group stages. Fans are eager to find out if they will encounter any possibly big sides in the following round. So, let’s examine who La Roja might face in the opening round of eliminations.

Who could Spain face in round of 16?

Spain secured the top position in Group B. The 2012 Euro winners can likely play one of the many teams. Many teams are in contention because the draw specifies that the winner of Group B will play any of the third-placed teams in Groups A, D, E and F.

If Spain plays the Group A third-placed side, we will see them against Hungary. They can play any of these teams from Group D, which includes the Netherlands, France and Austria. It is more likely that Austria will place third.

Of the four, Group E is the most open, comprising Belgium, Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania. As all four sit with three points each ahead of matchday 3, the third-placed side could be any one and really hard to predict. They could finally go off against either Georgia or Czechia if they were to face Group F opponents.

Spain are brimming with confidence as so far they have been the only side to win all three matches of their group and will hope to see an easy path to the final of the tournament. The national team boast plenty of talented stars and among them has been Lamine Yamal who at the age of 16 impressed at the competition.

La Roja will soon learn their opponents once the entire group matches come to an end.
