David Moyes issues Everton injury update ahead of Liverpool clash in Premier League Matchweek 5

The Toffees will face their local rivals Tomorrow.

Before the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, David Moyes gave an update on Everton’s injury situation. Moyes wants to win at Anfield for the first time in his time as a manager when the Toffees visit the stadium tomorrow.

Everton enters the encounter having lost only once in all competitions. They drew 0-0 with Aston Villa last weekend, despite the fact that the Blues were the superior team.

Against Villa, Vitalii Mykolenko did not play due to a groin injury; the left-back left Ukraine’s squad during the international break and missed the first two games of the 2025–26 season. The most recent training images that Everton posted did not feature Mykolenko.

Jarrad Branthwaite, meanwhile, is yet to play this season due to a hamstring injury. The Everton manager acknowledged that there are other players with knocks and that he is uncertain if the defensive pair can play against Liverpool.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, David Moyes said: “They’re making progress and we’ll see. We have got a couple of other knocks in the camp. We’ll see how they are.”

Moyes stated that Branthwaite would be a “few weeks” and Mykolenko was “around it” prior to the Villa match (week 3), implying that only the latter has a genuine chance.

The Toffees under Moyes have been decent so far are languishing in 6th place after winning two games in their four outings, with a defeat and a draw alongside.

They now face a big test when they take on their local rivals at Anfield. While the Reds have yet to suffer a defeat, and given that Moyes’ side will play away from home, it will be a challenging game for them.
