Matchday three delivered plenty of entertainment.

Qatar achieved a new FIFA World Cup record with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland. The same result, however, proved bittersweet for heavyweights Brazil and Morocco.

In Boston, two teams with great histories returned to the global showpiece after long absences, and Scotland had many happy returns. Steve Clarke’s side had to work hard before defeating Haiti thanks to a first-half goal from John McGinn.

Australia probably saved the best for last, defeating Turkey in Vancouver owing to outstanding efforts up front from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe. The match saw an equally excellent performance from youthful custodian Patrick Beach.
