FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony to be held across three cities.

After four years of waiting, the FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to kick off on June 11. This will be the largest iteration of football’s biggest tournament, featuring 48 teams competing across 104 matches in three host nations.

Argentina will look to defend their crown in the 23rd edition of the World Cup, with Lionel Messi and his rival Cristiano Ronaldo making their sixth and final appearance in the tournament.

But before the on-field action starts on Thursday, all eyes will be on the star-studded opening ceremony. Resembling the expanded nature of the World Cup, the opening ceremony is threefold, featuring some of the biggest artists in the world.

Marco Balich, the Italian producer of the opening ceremony for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, is the creative head of the World Cup opening ceremonies. The performances, which will feature unique motifs for each co-host, will last for around 90 minutes.

The first leg of the opening ceremony will take place in Mexico City ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at Estadio Azteca. The second ceremony will take place on June 12 in Toronto before Canada’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The third and final opening ceremony is scheduled for later that day in Los Angeles.

Mexico opening ceremony: Global pop star Shakira and Nigerian artist Burna Boy will headline the opening ceremony at Estadio Azteca, performing ‘Dai Dai’, the official song of this year’s World Cup. World Cup ambassador Salma Hayek will be present.

Mexican superstar Alejandro Fernandez will sing the national anthem of Mexico, followed by the South African national anthem by Tyla. Latin American sensation J Balvin is also set to perform with Ryan Castro. Also present will be Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, Mexican singer Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, and Mana.

Canada opening ceremony: Canadian pop icon Michael Buble will lead the opening ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto. Alanis Morissette will sing the Canadian national anthem, followed by Aleksandar Gajic singing the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Actor and comedian Will Arnett will be present as the World Cup ambassador.

French hip-hop artist Vegedream, famous for his song “Ramenez la coupe a la maison”, will also perform, along with Bollywood star Nora Fatehi. Palestinian singer Elyanna are scheduled to perform, alongside Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Sanjoy and William Prince.

United States opening ceremony: The final opening ceremony will take place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and will be headlined by pop star Katy Perry. Nigerian Afrobeats artist Rema, Brazilian singer Anitta, rapper Future, Thai-born K-pop artist Lisa, and South African musician Tyla are also on the bill. Ava Max and BIA have also been added to the lineup.

Musical duo Dan + Shay will sing the United States national anthem, followed by the Paraguayan anthem by Purahei Soul. Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis will be present as the World Cup ambassador.
