Florian Wirtz set to remain at Bayer Leverkusen next season
The German international led Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga triumph
Bayer Leverkusen’s sensation Florian Wirtz will remain at the home of the Bundesliga 2023-24 champions in the next season, confirmed Sporting Director Simon Rolfes. Granit Xhaka will continue to serve the German outfit for at least one more season.
Xabi Alonso’s team clinched the title after an emphatic 5-0 win over Werder Bremen. Wirtz came off the bench at the start of the second half. His side was comfortably winning but the youngster had some other plans. He scored a hat-trick to add himself to the history books.
The 20-year-old is one of the hottest properties in world football. He has 21 goal contributions in 29 league games for Leverkusen. These include 11 goals and 10 assists. Overall, the youngster has 17 goals and 18 assists to his name in all competitions.
Bayer Leverkusen’s historic title win ended Bayern Munich’s incredible 11-year title run in Germany. In an interview with Spiegel published Monday, the day after Leverkusen’s title triumph, Rolfes said “Granit is staying, Florian too”.

Wirtz, who is in a lot of demand this summer, “is a figure people can identify with. With his grit and his willpower, he’s a very special and important player for future successes.”
Granit Xhaka joined the club in the summer from Arsenal. He has played more minutes than any other player for his side this season. Xhaka also scored a goal in the recent match against Bremen.
The Sporting Director also ruled out big incomings in the summer and said, “If we make any big changes in summer, it would only be to bring in top people like Granit who are regular players.”
Xabi Alonso and his side are on a 43-match unbeaten streak. They can win the treble this season. Currently, the team is in the final of the DFB Pokal and has the edge over West Ham United in the UEFA Europa League. This has turned out to be the best season in Leverkusen’s history.
