The Bundesliga is one of the most cultured and exciting leagues in the world of football. It has been a cornerstone of European football since its inception in 1963 as the top division in German football. The league has seen some of the best players in the world.

Some players spent a lot of time in the Bundesliga, while some of them left the league after a brief spell. They made their name in another club, in another league, but eventually, people have forgotten that they played in the Bundesliga as well. Here we will take a look at the top 10 players you probably forgot played in the Bundesliga.

10. Nicklas Bendtner (VfL Wolfsburg)

After a couple of back-to-back loan spells, Bendtner permanently moved to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg in a three-year deal. His time at the German outfit was decent. But he didn’t fulfil his contract fully.

Just after two seasons, his contract was terminated. Despite having a short time, he played a key role in helping Wolfsburg to win the DFL Supercup against Bayern Munich.

9. Thomas Gravesen (Hamburger SV)

Gravesen joined Hamburger from Vejle, a top-division Danish Club at that time. It was his first time playing professionally outside of his own country. Gravesen spent some good years with Hamburger.

As a midfielder, he was a key player for them. For HSV, he played 94 matches and scored six goals.

Lookman was born and brought up in England. But he represents Nigeria in international football. He joined RB Leipzig for the first time on a loan from Everton.

Later he joined them permanently in 2019 after he impressed everyone at Leipzig. Even after he was signed permanently, he didn’t play a lot with Leipzig. He was loaned to Fulham and Leicester City. He only played 22 games for Leipzig.

7. Alexander Isak (Borussia Dortmund)

Isak was part of the second team of Borussia Dortmund. Later on, he was promoted to the first team. But his time with the Yellow army didn’t last long.

He only made five appearances for them. Dortmund was his first professional club, where he played. Later on, he joined Willem II on a loan and was permanently transferred to LaLiga side Real Sociedad.

6. Pepe Reina (Bayern Munich)

Recently, he retired from professional football. His career was very long as he played for some of the biggest clubs in the world. His stint with Bayern Munich was only one season, in which he played three games.

He joined the Bavarian club from Liverpool, where he spent a lot of time and became a club legend. After that, he joined Napoli in Serie A.

5. Mauro Camoranesi (VfB Stuttgart)

The Italian international joined Stuttgart from Juventus. His contract was terminated by the Italian club, and he joined the Bundesliga outfit as a free agent. After just a few months had passed, his contract was mutually terminated.

Camoranesi admitted that he didn’t fit in the club sporting-wise, although he liked the team, people and the city. During this short duration, he played only seven games.

4. Victor Osimhen (VfL Wolfsburg)

The Nigerian international started his professional career with the Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg. When he was part of Wolfsburg, they were suffering a lot as they were not able to perform well and were struggling in the Bundesliga. He was also sent on loan for one season, in which he joined Charleroi, a Belgian club.

Osimhen was very young at that time and suffered some injuries as well. He only played 14 games for Wolfsburg, in which he failed to score a goal. His overall stint was disappointing in the Bundesliga.

Later on, he joined Lille.

3. Roberto Firmino (TSG Hoffenheim)

Firmino started his career in Europe in the Bundesliga with TSG Hoffenheim, where he joined them from Figueirense, who were playing in the top division of the Brazilian Serie A. He played for them for four seasons and left the club in 2015 to join Liverpool. There he became a club legend.

He made a big impact for Hoffenheim and performed exceptionally well, which led the Reds to sign him. He played 140 games for Hoffenheim, in which he scored 38 goals.

2. Edin Dzeko (VfL Wolfsburg)

The Bosnian international has played for various clubs in his career so far, and VfL Wolfsburg are one of them. He joined the club in 2007 and played four seasons for them. During those four seasons, he made 111 appearances in which he scored 66 goals as well.

During his time in Germany, he won several individual awards for his performance. The forward helped his team to get good results. He played a key role in the Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga win in the 2008-09 season.

Despite being 39 years old, he is still playing at the top level.

1. Dimitar Berbatov (Bayer Leverkusen)

The former Bulgarian international and Manchester United legend joined Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in 2001. This was his first major move into a top European league. He worked really hard and made a name for himself in world football.

He made 154 appearances for the club, in which he scored 69 goals. He very soon established himself as the number one choice as a striker and delivered immediate results.
