France predicted lineup for Netherlands clash in Euro 2024; Olivier Giroud to start?
The stage is set for one of the most exciting fixtures of the group stage
The Euro 2024 has a variety of world-class national teams alongside other great national teams as well. In Group D, France will face Netherlands which is perhaps their biggest test in the group stages. Netherlands are always perceived as the dark horses, the underdogs.
France on the other hand are a strong team as well and have a lot of squad depth. Overall, head-to-head records show that France have dominated Netherlands across all competitions winning 7 out of 11 games. This fixture can lead to either France or Netherlands getting a guaranteed spot in the RO16 since both teams have 3 points each.
France manager Didier Deschamps is unlikely to change anything from their line-up and will only make one major change. Let’s take a look at France’s predicted line-up for their upcoming clash against Netherlands in the Euro 2024.
France predicted line-up for Netherlands (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper – Mike Maignan
The AC Milan goalkeeper is expected retain to his place for France against Netherlands. Mike Maignan put up a confident performance against Austria in their first group stage clash of the Euro 2024. Mike was not overworked much but made some handy saves including a good save against Baumgartner’s shot to help France retain their minute lead.
Left-Back – Theo Hernandez
Arguably the best full-back in France’s clash against Austria. Theo Hernandez is a very quick player and is a well-balanced full-back known for his attacking abilities as well as his defensive abilities. Theo Hernandez makes a lot of overlapping runs and tracks back consistently. Hernandez showed this against Austria securing the left flank successfully on numerous occasions.
Centre-Back – William Saliba
The Arsenal defender is always calm and composed in the back line. William Saliba is a defender who maintains composure in possession and distributes the ball well. Off the ball, Saliba barely sets a foot wrong and is effective in tackle. William Saliba’s performance against Austria proved that he is the ideal choice for France.
Centre-Back – Dayot Upamecano
Bayern Munich’s centre-back is a great choice for the French national team. Dayot Upamecano is a defender who likes to play vertical passes, has great anticipation and has great pace despite his physique and height. Upamecano is a ball playing Centre-Back and paired well with William Saliba in their first match against Austria.
Right-Back – Jules Kounde
Kounde put in a rock solid performance for France against Austria. Jules made seven clearances for France against Austria. Jules Kounde has displayed a lot of his attacking capabilities for FC Barcelona throughout the season.
Kounde was not able to display those attacking abilities efficiently and consistently against Austria. Nonetheless, he can definitely be rock-solid in defence and contribute to France’s attacking options in their clash against Netherlands.
Defensive-Midfielder – Adrien Rabiot
Adrien Rabiot is a very versatile midfielder and can play in various positions. Rabiot can play in a deep creative role as well as a box-to-box midfielder. Rabiot’s defensive capabilities and creativity are his best attributes.
Adrien Rabiot played well against Austria helping protect the backline and push the ball up ahead as well to help create attacking chances for France.
Defensive-Midfielder – N’golo Kante
With Aurelien Tchouameni working on regaining his match fitness and Camavinga on the bench, Didier Deschamps put Kante in the starting XI. Many thought this would not prove to be fruitful since Kante has not been playing at Europe’s top-quality football levels after moving to the Saudi League. However the 33-year-old showed glimpses of his past self and proved that he still has the ability to play at the top level.
N’golo Kante covers a big chunk of the pitch and is an engine for France mainly helping to protect the backline and carry the ball ahead as well. Kante plays this role very consistently and efficiently. Kante’s performance against Austria showed that he can perform at the highest level for France.
Left-Winger – Marcus Thuram
Son of France and football legend Lillian Thuram, Marcus Thuram is a gem who has not fallen far from the family name. Thuram is living upto his expectations and has a lot more to provide as he is just 26 years old. Thuram’s biggest strength is his ability to move into spaces off the ball. Thuram often plays on the left and does not hesitate to use his technical abilities to get out of tight spaces.
Marcus was a threat for Austria throughout the game and did not hesitate to take on his opponents. The Inter Milan winger is surely expected to start again for France against Netherlands.

Attacking-Midfielder – Antoine Griezmann
One of the most underrated players of our generation. Antoine Griezmann is a versatile player and has a lot to offer from various positions. Griezmann has played as a central attacking midfielder on various occasions for Atletico Madrid. Griezmann’s technical abilities, precise and incisive passes, intelligence and awareness sets him apart from other players. Antoine Griezmann also creates goal-scoring opportunities for himself and the team as well.
Griezmann did not live upto his usual world-class standards against Austria failing to impact the game. He will look to redeem himself in France’s upcoming clash against Netherlands in the Euro 2024.
Right-Winger – Ousmane Dembele
Dembele has always been an attacking threat beating opponents with his pace and skills. Ousmane Dembele took on the Austrian defenders on many occasions in France’s first Euro 2024 game. Dembele beat the opponents on various occasions but failed to provide any end product which seems to be a persistent issue.
Nonetheless, Ousmane Dembele has the perfect attributes, shooting ability and pace which makes him a dangerous winger.
Striker- Olivier Giroud
The top scorer for France’s national team barely had a chance to do anything in their first Euro 2024 game against Austria. Olivier Giroud came on late as a substitute for Kylian Mbappé against Austria and did not have enough time to impact the game.
Kylian Mbappe’s nasty clash against an Austrian defender has resulted in him missing out the rest of the group stage matches. This implies that Olivier Giroud is likely to start as a striker for France. Giroud is a good poacher and is a great goalscorer as well. Giroud’s runs towards the goal and ability to finish with both feet makes him a clinical goalscorer.
