Bale formed a great attacking trio alongside Ronaldo and Benzema at Los Blancos.

Rumours that Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t get along at Real Madrid have been batted down. During their five seasons together at Los Blancos, the Welsh star and the Portuguese legend won numerous LaLiga and Champions League titles.

The former Tottenham winger claims he never had any problems with any of his teammates at the European powerhouses, despite all the abuse he received in Spain.

There were concerns regarding Bale’s compatibility with fellow winger Ronaldo when he moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Madrid in 2013. In reality, Bale played on the right and Ronaldo on the left in their 2014 Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid, with Karim Benzema spearheading the attack.

Some large egos may need to be restrained when elite players are vying for first-team slots. However, the former Wales international claimed that during his tenure at the Bernabeu, he felt no animosity for the now 40-year-old.

Bale told GQ: “I’m not really in touch with that many [old Madrid team-mates] – a few of the Wales boys – but I always got on with everybody. I never had any problems with anyone. I never had any big arguments. Sometimes the media might say about me and Ronaldo, we never had an issue, never had an argument, never had a fight, never had anything.”

Gareth Bale was expected to do well at the Spanish powerhouses after Cristiano Ronaldo left Madrid for Juventus in 2018. However, the Welshman’s final five years with the club were hampered by both form and injuries.

After Wales qualified for Euro 2020, Bale handed the Spanish media all the ammunition they needed by celebrating behind a Welsh flag with the phrase “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In That Order.”

The Spanish media did not hold back while criticising Bale in that sequence. That obviously didn’t go down well in Spain in 2019.
