The German football team will get kit supplies from Nike from 2027

The German national football team are set to end their ties with a decades-old partnership with Adidas. The European nation is set to sign a new deal with Nike.

All of Germany’s national teams will receive their uniforms and equipment from American sportswear giant Nike beginning in 2027, the German Football Association (DFB) unexpectedly revealed on Thursday.

The new agreement, which runs until 2034, breaks Germany’s nearly 70-year-old and seemingly unbreakable bond with Adidas.

For the European Championship, which Germany will be holding this summer, the men’s squad is based out of Adidas’ headquarters in the heart of close to Nuremberg.

“We understand every emotion. It’s also a drastic event for us as an association when it becomes clear that a partnership that was and is characterized by many special moments is coming to an end after more than 70 years. That doesn’t leave us cold,” the DFB wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Adidas said in a succinct statement that it was taken aback by the DFB’s decision to go with its largest competitor: “We were informed by the DFB today that the association will have a new supplier from 2027.”Adidas apparel was worn by German teams in all four of their World Cup victories as well as their three European crowns and their two World Cup victories as well as eight European titles as women.

Subsequently, the DFB justified the decision to use the American kit provider. It stated that the growth of football in Germany, where it oversees more than 24,000 clubs and 2.2 million active players, is its top objective. It said that in order to maintain football as a popular sport, it finances member teams and its amateur membership.

“The DFB has to make economic decisions against this background. Nike made by far the best financial offer in the transparent and non-discriminatory tender process,” the DFB wrote.

Earlier, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said, “We’re looking forward to working with Nike and the trust they’ve placed in us. The future partnership will enable the DFB to continue to carry out key tasks in the coming decade with regard to the comprehensive development of soccer in Germany.”

Rocking his company’s screw-in stud boots, Adi Dassler, the creator of the German sportswear business, supported West Germany coach Sepp Herberger from the bench during the 1954 World Cup victory by the German men’s team.Contrary to popular belief, Dassler did not create the boots with replaceable studs. Alexander Salot, a German shoemaker, came up with them a few years earlier. On August 30, 1949, he filed his invention with the German Patent Office. But during the 1954 World Cup final, they undoubtedly contributed to Germany’s victory over Hungary. Since then, Dassler’s business has provided German football with equipment, and only this past week, it unveiled the new uniforms for Euro 2024, which Germany is hosting from June 14 to July 14.
