Both nations are set for their first-ever World Cup clash.
The Germany national football team are set to continue their momentous run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They are set to face the Ivory Coast, a team capable of creating big upsets in a highly anticipated Group E fixture at the Toronto Stadium in Ontario, Canada.
Die Mannschaft have been in great form in recent years, restoring their status as one of the footballing powerhouses, with four World Cup titles. Following underwhelming performances in the previous two World Cups, Germany are on track to create a massive impact in the 2026 tournament.
Huge expectations are placed upon the side after a dominant UEFA qualifier run, topping their qualification group. Under manager Julian Nagelsmann, they have built an explosive unit that plays an attacking brand of football, utilising creative talents.
Their preparations heading into the 2026 World Cup have focused entirely on perfecting an aggressive, high-octane counter-pressing system that aims to completely outplay opposition backlines. The team are in exceptional form coming into this fixture after a historic 7–1 demolition of Curaçao in their opening match.

Who all will be expected to be in the Germany starting lineup?

Manager Julian Nagelsmann is expected to line the team up in a fluid, offensive 4-2-3-1 formation. The structure allows the side to play the opponents out of possession using high-pressing. They rely on quick passing combinations, explosive wing play, and outnumbering the opposition defence in the box to create scoring chances.
Veteran Manuel Neuer is expected to start between the posts as the primary goalkeeper. Ahead of him, Jonathan Tah and Nico Schlotterbeck are set to form the defensive partnership. They will be tasked with holding a high defensive line, using their exceptional recovery pace to shut down Ivory Coast’s attacking transitions.
In the fullback positions, captain Joshua Kimmich and youngster Nathaniel Brown will operate on the flanks, acting as midfielders in possession to overload the wider areas and help in controlling possession. In the central spaces, Aleksandar Pavlović will play as the deep-lying anchor to dictate the tempo. Meanwhile, Felix Nmecha will partner him as the box-to-box midfielders tasked with creating opportunities, with the player opening the team’s scoring against Curaçao.
In the attack, explosive winger Leroy Sané will step into the right wing position. He will try to use his raw pace and unpredictable dribbling to stretch the Ivory Coast’s backline and create confusion among defenders.
In the centre, creative maestro Jamal Musiala will control the game from the attacking midfield role, using his vision and ability to operate in tight spaces to provide defence-breaking passes. Florian Wirtz will operate on the left flank, consistently dribbling inside to create overloads. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz serves as the team’s primary striker.
