Why did Jamal Musiala tape his headphones before Germany vs Curaçao FIFA World Cup 2026 clash?

Jamal Musiala scored one goal and created two chances during Germany’s 7-1 win over Curaçao.
Four-time FIFA World Cup champions Germany faced Curacao in their opening match of the 2026 edition on Sunday, June 14. After being eliminated from the group stage of their last two campaigns of the coveted tournament, Julian Nagelsmann’s side arrived in North America with a lot of pressure.
However, facing debutants Curaçao in the first game, they made a strong statement to fans and critics that they should be considered the title favourites. They defeated Curaçao 7-1 at the Houston Stadium in Texas.
Felix Nmecha broke the deadlock in the 6th minute. However, the debutants were quick to equalise the game as Livano Comenencia scored Curacao’s first goal. Nico Schlotterbeck scored the second for Germany, while Kai Havertz made the scoreline 3-1.
Jamal Musiala also got his name on the scoresheet before Nathaniel Brown netted the fifth goal of the evening for the four-time champions. Later in the second half, Deniz Undav scored the sixth goal for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, while Kai Havertz also managed to complete his brace before the final whistle.
However, before the game even commenced, Jamal Musiala was asked to cover the logo on his headphones with tape.

Why was Jamal Musiala asked to cover the logo on his headphones with tape?
FIFA asked Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala to cover the “Beats by Dr Dre” logo on his headphones with tape before the game vs Curaçao. The action was taken because FIFA doesn’t want to see any other brand logos except those of the tournament’s sponsors.
The accidental advertisement could lead to the promotion of any brand not directly connected to the summer competition. Additionally, it could further attract lawsuits and related legal issues for the competition, as well as for the brand associated with it.
A few brands that are global partners of the FIFA World Cup include Adidas, Coca-Cola, Visa, Hyundai-Kia, Qatar Airways, Amaro and Lenovo. At every edition, the tournament and the brand generate revenue in the billions, courtesy of these deals.
